L’ABEILLE Celebrates Honey Day
On August 3rd, a day dedicated to honey in Japan, L’ABEILLE is thrilled to announce a collaboration themed around ‘Tokyo Azabu Honey,’ commencing its activities at Azabudai Hills on August 2nd. This initiative highlights urban beekeeping, which serves to connect people, nature, and the urban environment through the invaluable work of bees.
The Role of Bees in Urban Beekeeping
Bees do far more than just produce honey; they are crucial pollinators that aid in the flowering process of plants. Urban beekeeping fosters biodiversity and contributes to the greening of cityscapes. Recognizing the importance of bees in our ecosystem, L’ABEILLE launched its sustainable beekeeping project in collaboration with Mori Building, setting up hives near Ark Garden to improve the local environment and promote urban bees as essential partners in nature.
In spring 2023, L’ABEILLE’s beekeeping team installed hives that are home to around 100,000 bees. These hardworking bees gather nectar from the blossoms surrounding Ark Garden to produce their delicious honey.
Special Launch Events
To mark this significant occasion, L’ABEILLE is set to unveil the freshly harvested ‘Tokyo Azabu Honey’ on August 2nd. Customers will also have the opportunity to enjoy an array of collaborative desserts and drinks crafted using this exclusive honey. Among the offerings this year, a delightful workshop designed for children will be conducted, focusing on making candles using beeswax created by the bees themselves.

The designation of August 3rd as 'Honey Day' was established by the All-Japan Honey Cooperative and the Japanese Beekeeping Honey Association in 1985, as they chose the date based on the phonetics of the words ‘eight’ (hachi) and ‘three’ (mitsu), which together sound like honey in Japanese.

The newly harvested honey, known as ‘new honey,’ has its first batch gathered this year. Produced by bees visiting flowering plants across Tokyo, this honey boasts a vibrant floral fragrance, a fruity taste, and a luscious texture; it’s a must-try for honey enthusiasts. The honey is priced at 1,728 JPY for 36g or 5,400 JPY for 125g, and will only be available for a limited time or until stocks last.
