A Historic Moment at TurfMutt Great Lawn
On May 16, 2026, the TurfMutt Great Lawn at Waterfront Park in Louisville, Kentucky, was the stage for a remarkable accomplishment. Power technology company Rehlko established a new
Guinness World Record for the fastest mowing of an area equivalent to that of an American football field. This incredible feat was executed using a mower powered by the
Command PRO® 999 cc (41 hp) gasoline engine, under the expert guidance of Hali Rieman, known affectionately as the
'Lawn Queen.'
The event went beyond a mere record - it served as a live demonstration of the significant impact that parks have on our day-to-day lives. Kris Kiser, President and CEO of the TurfMutt Foundation, Outdoor Power Equipment Institute, and Equip Exposition remarked, "This achievement is not only about breaking a world record but also emphasizes the health, wellness, and environmental benefits that well-managed landscapes provide to our communities each day."
In preparation for the record-setting attempt, the grass was maintained at a height of
six inches, creating an eclectic testing ground that showcased the ability of managed turf to withstand extreme conditions while retaining environmental integrity. This initiative was part of Rehlko's global
'Cutting History' campaign aimed at promoting the importance of proper landscaping.
Kris Kiser emphasized the necessity of acknowledging the infrastructural value of green spaces, asserting, "The TurfMutt Great Lawn at Waterfront Park is a keystone of our community. We take immense pride in being recognized on such a grand scale." The event spotlighted the ongoing transformation of Louisville's urban landscape, underlying the integral role that managed landscapes play in fostering community bonds and promoting pride among citizens.
Turfgrass is not just a decorative element; it is one of nature's unsung environmental superheroes. It produces oxygen, sequesters carbon, filters air pollutants, cools communities, and helps prevent erosion and water runoff. As summer approaches, homeowners wishing to maintain their lawns with the same world-class care as demonstrated during the event are advised to prioritize safety. Kiser cautions, "When utilizing a mower or other outdoor power equipment, it is vital to keep kids and pets away from operating machinery and adhere to the manufacturer's safety guidelines."
