An Auction Like No Other: Princess Diana's Style and Royal Collection
Julien's Auctions is set to hold a remarkable event on June 26, 2025, at The Peninsula Beverly Hills, highlighted by the exclusive "Princess Diana's Style and Royal Collection." This auction promises to unveil over 300 unique items that reflect the fashion legacy and personal style of the beloved Princess of Wales, never before seen at auction.
Among the treasures featured are iconic garments personally worn by Diana, including a striking evening gown designed by Catherine Walker, dating back to 1986, projected to fetch between $200,000 to $300,000. Another notable piece is a floral day dress from the Bellville Sassoon collection, which Diana donned in 1988, alongside a three-piece ensemble from Escada and her luxurious scarlet skiing suit from HEAD. Also on display will be a variety of accessories, including a peach hat by John Boyd from her honeymoon in 1981 and the timeless Lady Dior handbag crafted from lambskin.
In addition to Diana's wardrobe, auction goers can also bid on previously unseen fashion designs and personal items that belonged to other members of the British royal family, including items associated with Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. Highlights include fashion illustrations by Norman Hartnell for Princess Margaret, her antique diamond and natural pearl bracelet, and Givenchy dresses worn by the Duchess of Windsor.
Notably, British designer Elizabeth Emanuel, famed for co-designing Diana's iconic wedding gown in 1981, will contribute selected pieces from her personal archive along with sketches. Emanuel expressed her thoughts on Diana's lasting impact, stating, "Diana's timeless beauty and style continue to inspire. I feel honored to share these memories with the world."
A portion of the proceeds from Diana’s items will benefit Muscular Dystrophy UK, honoring her charitable legacy. Julien’s Auctions has a history of showcasing Diana's treasures, having sold her evening gown for a staggering $1.14 million in 2023 and her shoes for $390,000 in 2024, both of which set world records.
According to Martin Nolan, co-founder and CEO of Julien's Auctions, "This auction celebrates Diana's elegance and her enduring cultural influence." Exclusive pre-auction viewings will take place in New York, London, and Los Angeles, leading up to the live auction event at The Peninsula Beverly Hills on June 26, 2025, at 10 AM ET.
