Autism United of Wisconsin Introduces Autism Inclusion Month
Autism United of Wisconsin (AUW) is set to unveil an exhilarating new initiative, dubbing April as 'Autism Inclusion Month.' This campaign represents a significant evolution from previous national efforts focused merely on awareness and acceptance. The organization is now wholeheartedly dedicated to fostering inclusion for all individuals affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and other neurodivergent conditions.
According to Rechelle Chaffee, the Executive Director of AUW, ‘Every day presents a chance for society to improve the lives of children, teens, and adults with ASD.’ She emphasizes that roughly 3% of all births in the U.S. result in an Autism diagnosis, with notably higher rates among the Black, Hispanic, and Asian communities. Chaffee urges the public to embrace individuals with ASD across all ethnicities, backgrounds, and economic situations, advocating for kindness, understanding, and love.
Kelly Backes, AUW Board President, passionately stated, 'Autism Inclusion Month should rightfully be termed ‘Mission Autism Inclusion.' It has been an unspoken aspiration for all of us at this organization and for families, friends, and supporters, to ensure that our neurodivergent loved ones are welcomed through open doors. This mission isn’t just for April—it’s a commitment we’ll uphold every day of the year.'
AUW aims to widen its reach across Wisconsin’s 72 counties and potentially even further to offer essential services, support, education, and resources for individuals on the Autism Spectrum. According to Chaffee, 'Our mission at Autism United has remained steadfast over the past 50 years: to make life better and brighter for everyone impacted by Autism—together, both now and in the future.'
The organization encourages media bodies, individuals, and organizations to proudly feature the 'Autism is Inclusion Month' graphics on websites, social media, and other communication platforms. For those interested, a media kit containing artwork and usage instructions is available by emailing [email protected].
