Los Defensores Launches 2026 Scholarships for Latino Law and Journalism Students

Opening Opportunities: 2026 Scholarships for Latino Students

Los Defensores recently announced an exciting initiative aimed at empowering Latino students aspiring to make their mark in the fields of law and journalism. In partnership with the Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation (JBJF), a unique scholarship program for 2026 has been launched, intended to support students from underserved communities in California. Applications are now available and will be accepted until July 24, 2026.

The scholarships fall under the Siempre Contigo community initiative, a testament to the brand’s dedication towards the Latino community. Since 2019, the Siempre Contigo initiative has granted close to $200,000 in scholarships, showcasing a significant commitment to educational equity. This year’s theme, "The Power of Believing," encapsulates the essence of encouragement, support, and the affirmation of dreams. It highlights the pivotal role of community mentors and resource networks in fostering resilience and ambition among students, particularly those from marginalized backgrounds.

Ariela Nerubay, the Chief Brand Officer at Los Defensores, emphasizes the brand's belief in the potential of students facing various barriers, stating, "When a student encounters doubt or financial obstacles, we want them to know we see them, we stand with them, and we believe in their potential. Supporting scholarships is one of the most powerful ways we live our brand.” This quote embodies the essence of the initiative: recognizing and uplifting the untapped talent within the Latino community to encourage academic pursuits and careers in critical fields.

The JBJF was established to champion education by providing scholarships and mentoring opportunities designed to nurture the next generation of influential leaders. Jaime Jarrín, a Major League Baseball Hall of Famer and former Spanish-language broadcaster for the Los Angeles Dodgers, articulates the mutual benefits of investing in education: "When we invest in our youth's education, we're investing in stronger, more vibrant communities for us all." This sentiment reinforces the foundation’s mission, echoing the ideals of nurturing individuals to ensure collective progress and empowerment across communities.
