Yinchuan Emerges as a Global Wine Hub at the International Expo
Yinchuan: China's Emerging Global Wine Capital
Recently, the beautiful city of Yinchuan, located in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region, hosted the Fifth China (Ningxia) International Wine Culture and Tourism Expo, which ran from June 9 to June 12, 2025. Alongside the prestigious 32nd Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, this event has positioned Yinchuan at the forefront of the global wine industry, showcasing its commitment to expanding its influence on the international stage.
Yinchuan has already established itself as a major wine production hub in China, holding the title of the region with the highest concentration of vineyards in the country. Covering approximately 18,200 hectares (or 273,000 mu), the city boasts 155 wineries and grape-growing enterprises. In 2024, Yinchuan's annual wine production reached an impressive 75 million bottles, accounting for about 26.8% of the total domestic estate wine output. With 19 types of local wines recognized as national gifts, these fine wines have been successfully exported to over 40 countries and regions, further enhancing the city’s global footprint.
Over the years, Yinchuan has transformed its eastern foothills, once deemed barren and sandy, into a flourishing hotbed for viticulture. This is part of a broader ecological restoration effort that integrates environmental conservation with industry growth. By revitalizing the ecosystem through an all-encompassing approach involving the protection of mountains, rivers, forests, and lakes, Yinchuan exemplifies sustainable development in action. The city has diligently advanced its ecological strategies while fostering the wine industry, cultural tourism, and ecological conservation—all aligning economic growth with environmental protection.
Wine production in Yinchuan is tightly monitored at every level, ensuring that the quality of grapes meets premium standards. From scientifically backed planting techniques to the very latest advancements in winemaking technologies, careful attention is paid to every detail of the grape growing and production process. These efforts are reflected in the city’s growing reputation as a high-quality wine destination.
