XCMG Provides Heavy Machinery Support for Rescue Operations After Nairobi Building Collapse

XCMG's Vital Role in Nairobi Rescue Operations

On October 23, an 18-storey building in Eastleigh, Nairobi, suffered a catastrophic collapse, prompting emergency response teams to spring into action. Local businesses on the ground floor were operational, and construction workers were present at the site when disaster struck. In the aftermath, the Kenyan Defence Forces, Red Cross, and police swiftly mobilized to undertake search and rescue operations amid the chaos.

The Deployment of Heavy Machinery

The significant volume of debris, compounded by heavy concrete slabs, necessitated the urgent deployment of heavy machinery. XCMG Group, a leading global construction machinery manufacturer based in China, promptly activated its emergency response protocols upon receiving news of the collapse. The company's office in Kenya coordinated with the National Disaster Operations Centre and rescue personnel, ensuring an efficient response.

On the same day as the incident, XCMG dispatched an excavator to the scene, followed by a 25-ton crane the next day. This equipment played crucial roles in helping rescue teams navigate the perilous conditions at the site, working tirelessly under the supervision of on-ground rescue leaders to clear debris and locate survivors.

Collaborating with Emergency Teams

William Sifuna Watitwa, a police officer from Nairobi's northern subregion, remarked on the essential contribution of XCMG's excavator to the rescue operations, highlighting its effectiveness in removing heavy rubble. With the crane's assistance, teams could lift significant debris overhead, decreasing the load and facilitating access to potential survivors trapped beneath.

Fredrick Nyasani, XCMG's Kenya office manager, expressed his commitment to the local community: "As a Chinese enterprise operating in Kenya for many years, we are part of the local community and stand by it in times of need. During an emergency like this, it is our responsibility and duty to deploy our specialized equipment and technical personnel to support Kenyan rescue teams."

As of October 25, reports indicated that five individuals remained missing, while four received medical attention. XCMG’s rescue team continued to support local efforts, pledging to remain on-site until all operations conclude.

Conclusion

The collaboration between XCMG and local authorities showcases the critical importance of rapid response and machinery in emergency situations. As rescues continue, XCMG stands ready to provide further assistance, embodying the solidarity and commitment to service that transcends borders.
