Honoring Nurses Across North America: Rapid Relief Team Celebrates May with Events

Celebrating Nurses: Rapid Relief Team's Month of Appreciation

As International Nurses Day approaches on May 12, the Rapid Relief Team (RRT), operated by the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church, is gearing up for a month-long celebration dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions of nurses across North America. From bustling cities like Vancouver to the heart of New York, RRT volunteers are set to partner with various hospitals and healthcare facilities to express gratitude through a multitude of appreciation events throughout May.

In total, approximately 500 dedicated volunteers are expected to serve over 10,000 meals to nurses and hospital staff during this special month, recognizing their commitments, sacrifices, and tireless work on the front lines of healthcare.

The Mission Behind the Appreciation

Wes Macdonald, Operations Manager for RRT North America, emphasized the importance of this initiative. “International Nurses Day is a vital occasion to acknowledge the essential roles nurses play in our communities,” he remarked. “Their compassion, resilience, and professionalism are the bedrock of our healthcare system. By offering a meal and a moment to rest, we aim to convey our heartfelt thanks.”

The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day, titled "Empowered Nurses Save Lives," highlights the significance of fostering support and recognition for nurses as they navigate the challenges of their profession every day.

A Taste of Gratitude

Each event hosted by the Rapid Relief Team will feature a delightful array of hot meals, refreshments, and coffee, giving nurses a brief respite from their demanding schedules. Dr. Tomas Kaufman from Lakeshore General Hospital in Pointe-Claire, Quebec, expressed appreciation for these acts of kindness, stating, "This is a tremendous gesture that makes the staff feel valued for all they do," reflecting on the often overwhelming pressures faced in the healthcare field.

In previous years, RRT teams have made significant strides, with a record of serving 43,500 moments of appreciation worldwide in 2025, facilitated by 1,350 volunteers across more than 100 events.

A Commitment to Care

The Rapid Relief Team is dedicated to its mission of serving those who serve others. The focus during this month directly aligns with its long-standing philosophy of kindness and support, aiming to uplift nurses who work relentlessly behind the scenes, ensuring the health and safety of communities year-round.
