Revolutionizing Indoor Air Quality with Lacrex® Antibacterial Ducts

Introduction to Lacrex®

Fujimori Industries, led by President Norihiro Kuge, has partnered with Takenaka Corporation, under the leadership of President Naritake Chono, to develop a transformative product in the realm of indoor air quality: the Lacrex® duct. This innovative, flexible duct features antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral properties, marking a significant advancement for indoor environments in healthcare, hospitality, and residential facilities.

The Rationale Behind Development

In recent years, increasing concerns about indoor air quality in buildings have highlighted the problematic growth of bacteria and mold within ducts. Such biological contaminants not only deteriorate air quality but can also pose serious health risks to inhabitants. Traditional insulated flexible ducts often suffer from microbial proliferation over extended periods, leading to hard maintenance pressures.

Lacrex® is designed to tackle these issues head-on. It incorporates antibacterial and antimicrobial properties right into the interior surface of the duct. This is achieved by utilizing a specialized antibacterial nonwoven fabric made from densely crystallized copper zeolite fibers, ensuring long-lasting effectiveness against microbial threats. Furthermore, Lacrex® combines this nonwoven fabric with high-performance glass wool insulation to provide an adaptable installation process, noise reduction, and effective heat retention. The product has also earned a non-combustible material certification (Certification Number: NM-4038-2).

Exceptional Antibacterial Performance

One of the standout features of the Lacrex® duct is its ability to maintain hygienic conditions even under low airflow or stagnant air scenarios during nighttime cooling system shutdowns. Utilizing advanced materials allows the duct to effectively enforce antibacterial performance, optimizing air quality in buildings that demand superior environmental standards. The basic antibacterial capabilities of the nonwoven material have been validated by external organizations through testing methods such as the JIS L 1902 (liquid bacterial absorption method), JIS Z 2911 (mold resistance test), and ISO 21702 (antiviral performance).

Note: While Lacrex® demonstrates antibacterial efficacy, it cannot claim to cure diseases or prevent infections.

Expansion Plans

Fujimori Industries is geared to promote Lacrex® primarily within hospitals, welfare facilities, accommodation services, production sites, and residential areas. The product aims to enhance the overall sanitation of air conditioning systems. The company anticipates an annual sales volume amounting to 10,000 square meters of duct installation.
