USANA Health Sciences Welcomes a New Chief Scientific Officer

On January 22, 2025, USANA Health Sciences, a global leader in the field of cellular nutrition, proudly introduced Dr. Kathryn Armstrong, Ph.D., as its new Chief Scientific Officer. This strategic appointment represents a commitment to enhance the company's scientific initiatives and research capabilities.

Dr. Armstrong, who has been with USANA since July 2024 as the Executive Vice President of Research and Development, brings an impressive 17 years of experience from various prominent corporations, enriching USANA’s dedication to science and innovation.

An accomplished academic, Dr. Armstrong graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Loyola University Chicago. She further expanded her knowledge by obtaining a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Notre Dame. Her career began in 2007 at Whirlpool, where she worked as a Senior Engineer in the Advanced Chemical Process Team. Her trajectory continued to rise as she became a Lead Engineer in the Technology and Chemical Process Group.

In 2010, Dr. Armstrong transitioned to BISSELL Homecare, Inc., eventually holding the position of Associate Director of Product Attributes. For nearly nine years, she played various pivotal roles at Amway, including Vice President of New Ventures, Sciences, Plant, Agriculture, and Systems.

Transition of Leadership

This leadership change follows the announcement of Dr. Rob Sinnott’s retirement, who has held the role of Chief Scientific Officer for the past eight years. He will remain with USANA as a Senior Scientific Fellow, ensuring a smooth transition and continuing to support the company’s mission of scientific excellence. “I am very excited to have Dr. Armstrong serve as our Chief Scientific Officer,” stated Jim Brown, CEO and president of USANA. “Kathryn brings extensive experience and strong credentials that demonstrate USANA’s commitment to putting science at the forefront of everything we do.”

In her new role, Dr. Armstrong will oversee a diverse team of approximately 150 professionals working across product development, regulatory affairs, quality control, health education, and research among other areas. Dr. Armstrong expressed her enthusiasm, saying, “I’m honored to lead USANA’s global Research and Development team. We are committed to enhancing USANA’s exceptional products by using the best ingredients in optimal forms and quantities, with a focus on differentiation, quality, and innovation.”

Embracing a Vision

Dr. Armstrong will carry forward the vision of Dr. Myron Wentz, USANA’s founder, emphasizing the importance of empowering individuals through scientifically backed nutritional products. Her objectives include not only maintaining USANA’s reputation as a leader in the nutritional supplement industry but also improving community health through innovative solutions.

Dr. Wentz himself expressed full confidence in Dr. Armstrong’s leadership, stating, “I am so happy to see Dr. Armstrong become the new leader of USANA’s research and development. I know she will do an excellent job in maintaining and growing USANA’s status as a scientific leader.”

Thus, as USANA embarks on this new chapter under Dr. Armstrong’s guidance, the company continues its 30-year legacy of providing consumers with high-quality nutritional products that they can trust, particularly evident in its award-winning supplements and innovative skincare lines.
