Tokyo Yakult Swallows and Open House's Collaborative O-EN Project Empowers Visually Impaired Kids

The O-EN Project: A Step Towards Inclusivity

On August 20, 2025, the Tokyo Yakult Swallows will host the O-EN House Night, an event sponsored by the Open House Group aimed at supporting children facing visual impairments. This initiative is a part of their larger O-EN Project, which has been championing social collaboration since its inception. The day will not only feature a game between the Tokyo Yakult Swallows and the Yomiuri Giants but also a unique opportunity for children experiencing difficulties with their vision to watch the game using innovative visual support technology.

A Commitment to Challenging Norms

The Open House Group, headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has been a dedicated supporter of the Swallows since 2016, becoming their top sponsor in 2018. Their commitment to this community event reflects their corporate mission of supporting individuals and organizations who strive for challenges. Coined as “Take Flight, Your Challenge with O-EN”, this event emphasizes empowerment through participation and support.

Engaging Kids with the O-EN Challenge

As part of the O-EN Kids Challenge, the organization will conduct a special baseball watching experience for visually impaired children utilizing a piece of technology called RETISSA ON HAND. This device incorporates autofocus and laser projection, creating a clearer visual representation by projecting images directly onto the retina. It enhances the viewing experience, allowing children to enjoy and comprehend the game more fully, as it provides up to seven times zoom for closer views of player actions.

According to statistics from Japan’s Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, there are approximately 273,000 registered visually impaired individuals within the country. Open House is dedicated to breaking down barriers to participation for these children, and this event is designed to not only entertain but inspire positivity and inclusion.

Exciting Features Await Fans

Fans attending the O-EN House Night can expect a variety of interactive activities. One of the highlights includes using original wristbands designed to symbolize the aspiration for victory, which will be distributed to the first attendees. Participants are encouraged to wear these wristbands, snap pictures at designated photo spots, and post their excitement on social media using specific hashtags for a chance to win signed merchandise from their favorite players.

The event will also see replicas of the beloved Tsukakurou House returning, providing nostalgic opportunities for fans to take commemorative photos, and contribute handwritten messages of support for the players. The day’s festivities will culminate in the Open House Hero Awards, allowing fans to vote on who they believe should be the heroes of the game, which could lead to up to nine players receiving recognition if victory is achieved that night.

The Heart of the O-EN Project

The O-EN House Project, initiated in March 2024 by Open House, aims at creating an inclusive environment, bridging the gap for underrepresented groups, particularly children with disabilities. Through various initiatives such as the upcoming wheelchair basketball academy and eco-friendly workshops, the project consistently promotes learning and exploration, encouraging kids to embrace challenges as they prepare for a brighter future.

This event serves as an exemplary model of how initiatives rooted in social responsibility can create impactful community experiences that resonate with values of inclusion, respect, and teamwork. The collaboration among the Open House Group, the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, and various local organizations underlines a commitment to bettering the lives of children from all backgrounds.

Conclusion

As the O-EN House Night approaches, anticipation builds within the community, driven by a shared commitment to supporting inclusivity and empowering all children to explore, learn, and experience life’s joys. This event is a reminder that with innovation, awareness, and collaboration, sports can be a powerful platform for change.
