The Intersection of Art and Food: An Exciting New Exhibition
This autumn, as the air grows cooler and the theme of art takes center stage, Oisix La Daichi Inc. is set to launch an event that creatively explores the essence of food. Titled
'Food Journey: Art Exhibition at Gate City Osaki,' this unique exhibition is scheduled to run from
November 3 to November 24, 2025, and is expected to attract the attention of over
20,000 workers and
local residents in the bustling complex of Gate City Osaki, located directly connected to JR Osaki Station in Tokyo.
Bridging Art and Social Issues
Oisix La Daichi aims to utilize this art event as a platform to highlight social challenges associated with food production and consumption. In collaboration with agricultural ministries and local communities, the exhibition seeks to provoke thought and introspection about our daily food choices and the impact they have on society.
Set against the backdrop of the
'Food Month' in October and November, which the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries advocates, the exhibition will showcase art pieces that represent the connections between the creators, consumers, and distributors of food. The renowned artist
Toru Nakazaki, known for his involvement in the
Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale, will contribute visually stunning pieces. These works will not only beautify the space but will offer insightful commentaries on the intertwining narratives behind food.
A Month-Long Celebration of Art and Community
The interactive experience includes an art display adorning various communal areas throughout Gate City Osaki, including the
Amahara Dining Hall and the entrance of Oisix’s own headquarters. Visitors can participate in a stamp rally while exploring the artwork, gaining valuable learning about food societal issues. This interactive aspect encourages a deeper understanding and connection to the themes presented in the art.
Alongside the art exhibition, the event will also host a
marche—an artisan market themed around food challenges—where visitors can purchase upcycled food products, and misshapen vegetables, promoting both sustainability and local agriculture. Furthermore, Amahara Dining Hall will serve
limited-time menu items derived from surplus vegetables, demonstrating practical ways to reduce food waste.
Nakazaki's Creative Vision
Toru Nakazaki, who specializes in exploring discrepancies between language and imagery, brings a fresh perspective to the event. In his artistic expressions, he aims to embody the ideas and connections shared amongst those involved in the food cycle, represented through collective works meant to inspire viewers and provoke dialogue about their own relationship with food.
His extensive background includes participation in several influential projects and collaborations, emphasizing community and art’s role in communicating and facilitating change in views toward societal issues.
