Incheon Free Economic Zone Shines at CES 2025 Showcasing Smart City Innovations
The Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ) has made a significant impact at the CES 2025, held in Las Vegas from January 7 to 10, showcasing its visionary approach to smart cities through its 'INCHEON-IFEZ' booth. With the theme 'Urban Renaissance: Building Tomorrow's Smart Cities Today,' the booth drew over 12,000 visitors and highlighted the potential of Incheon-based innovative companies to reshape urban living through advanced technologies.
At the event, IFEZ emphasized its commitment to fostering a sustainable future, featuring a range of startups that are pioneering solutions in areas like robotics, environmental technology, and urban development. Among the highlights was Sheco, a startup noted for its robotic solutions aimed at addressing oil spills, receiving accolades from The Vertical, which named it one of the "12 Must-See Startups at CES 2025."
The participation of 41 companies was supported by IFEZ, which strategically placed them across different exhibition areas, including 10 firms in the main IFEZ booth, 10 within the Korea pavilion, 6 in the Global Pavilion, and 15 from the Incheon Startup Park Delegation. These companies collectively held 869 export consultation meetings with international buyers, resulting in an estimated $400 million in potential export deals.
Moreover, six companies solidified their international pathways with the signing of 10 Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs), paving the way for further global market penetration and investment attraction. IFEZ also celebrated a record-breaking achievement of 13 CES Innovation Awards won by 12 of its supporting companies, emphasizing the innovative spirit thriving within the Incheon ecosystem. This recognition highlights the global interest in Incheon's technological advancements and innovative capabilities.
During CES, IFEZ employed multiple promotional strategies to enhance global visibility. The 'Unveiled Incheon Media Stage' event, held on the first day of the exhibition, attracted around 30 global media outlets, offering a platform to announce IFEZ's initiatives and support for startups. Additionally, the 'All Connected Incheon Night' fostered networking among global leaders such as Kate Gallego, Mayor of Phoenix, and Victor Hoskins, CEO of Fairfax County Economic Development Authority.
A significant collaboration was established during this event with the Global Chamber, leading to another MoU, aimed at bolstering partnerships and assisting startups in recognizing global venture opportunities. Commissioner Yun Wonsok expressed pride in the achievements at CES, stating, "Through this participation, we have showcased IFEZ's smart city vision and are moving closer to our goal of becoming a 'Global Top 10 City, Incheon.'" He reiterated IFEZ's commitment to supporting local startups in making their mark on the international stage and evolving Incheon into a leading global business hub.
