Discover the AOBA Craft Ice Cream Market
The AOBA Craft Ice Cream Market is set to take place at Tamaplaza Terrace in Aoba Ward, Yokohama, spanning two days from October 10 (Saturday) to October 11 (Sunday). This exciting event, organized by Tokyu Malls Development, aims to celebrate craft ice cream with 57 participating stalls, featuring both renowned ice cream makers from across Japan and local vendors showcasing the flavor profiles unique to Aoba Ward.
This year marks the third iteration of the event, and it boasts the largest collection yet, with 23 high-quality craft ice cream shops joining the lineup, including first-time participants. These vendors will highlight the ingredients cultivated in their respective regions, such as Kumamoto, Okinawa, Niigata, Tokushima, Toyama, and Yamagata, offering unique flavors shaped by local customs and producers' dedication.
One notable feature of the event is a collaboration curated by Teppei Suzuki, the owner of Aoba-based Seika Mikotoya. Visitors will be able to enjoy a special limited-edition ice cream made from local vegetables at the KIKI NATURAL ICECREAM booth. Additionally, a unique offering called the “Aoba Local Plate” will be available, exhibiting the region's urban agriculture through a delicious one-plate menu utilizing locally sourced ingredients.
Moreover, on October 12 (Monday), there will be a limited supply special event titled “Encore Scoop,” where guests can buy the ice creams featured during the main event. This initiative aims to reach more customers while highlighting the value of the crafted products and the efforts of the artisans behind them.
This market event, set across three locations within Tamaplaza Terrace, aims to create a fascinating intersection of craft and community, showcasing both the artisanal ice cream movements and the vibrancy of Aoba Ward. Through a collaboration with Yokohama City acknowledging a mutual agreement to promote the Aoba area's appeal, this event contributes to stimulating local communities through the joy of food.
