Celebrating Three Decades of Bullfrog Spas: Innovation, Growth, and Community Impact

Bullfrog Spas: A Legacy of Innovation and Growth

In 2026, Bullfrog Spas® proudly commemorates 30 years of unparalleled success and innovation from its base in Utah. Founded in 1996 in Salt Lake City, the company has evolved remarkably from a modest operation with just two employees and 24 spas produced in its inaugural year to a significant player in the industry employing roughly 590 people and manufacturing nearly 280,000 spas to date.

A Journey of Innovation

The origins of Bullfrog Spas can be traced back to 1989, when founder David Ludlow began addressing service calls for hot tubs sold through his father's pool business. Frustrated with the frequent repairs stemming from leaks and malfunctions, Ludlow sought a more dependable approach to spa engineering. This commitment to finding a better way led to the development of the groundbreaking JetPak Therapy System®. This system's modular design allowed users to customize their spa experience with interchangeable jetted seat backs—a unique proposition in the market.

Bullfrog Spas officially launched in 1996 with the introduction of a six-seat model that featured six JetPaks and two jet pumps. The company quickly garnered attention, attaining safety certification and securing its first patents within a year. This foundational innovation played a crucial role in driving the company's early growth, as it gained recognition as Utah's fourth-fastest-growing company by 2002.

Expanding Horizons

The subsequent years saw Bullfrog Spas continually expand its manufacturing capabilities and product lineup. By 2003, the company had already migrated to a new facility in Bluffdale to enhance its production capacity. Fast forward to today, and Bullfrog operates from a spacious 286,000-square-foot headquarters in Herriman, offering a wider variety of products and even entering the swim spa sector with its Swim Series™ in 2022.

Throughout its journey, Bullfrog has upheld its commitment to innovation. In 2020, the brand introduced the M Series™, followed by the Calm Series™ in 2026, which further solidified its market presence. The company's focus on quality has enabled it to expand not only domestically but also internationally, establishing a foothold in European markets by 2025.

Celebrating Employee Contributions

As Bullfrog Spas celebrates this remarkable milestone, the company is emphasizing the role its employees have played in shaping its success. A series of anniversary activities have been planned to honor long-standing team members and recognize the collaborative spirit that has fueled the company's growth. Notably, a company-wide commemorative photo taken via drone will encapsulate this momentous occasion, bringing together employees who have contributed more than just labor; they have helped build a culture rooted in care, trust, and innovation.

The Vision Ahead

Looking forward, CEO Dan Sjoblom expressed optimism about the future, stating, "As we look toward the next 30 years, our focus remains on finding better ways to create products and experiences that improve people's lives." This forward-thinking approach ensures that Bullfrog Spas will continue to invest in innovation and the well-being of its employees.

In summary, Bullfrog Spas stands as a testament to the power of innovative thinking, hard work, and community involvement. From its humble beginnings to becoming a leader in the spa industry, Bullfrog's journey is a celebration of not only its products but the people who have made it all possible. As the company embarks on its next chapter, it firmly believes that the best is yet to come.
