Experience the Charm of Okinawa's Unique Plants
From August 28 to 31, 2026, Futako Tamagawa Tsutaya will host a four-day event titled ‘Unique Plants of Okinawa’ vol.2, featuring a collection of rare and extraordinary plant species cultivated in the sunny climate of Okinawa. This event, organized by the Okinawa Prefecture, promises to attract not only plant enthusiasts but also casual visitors eager to enhance their living spaces with greenery.
A Reputable Source of Unique Flora
Okinawa has long stood as a leading producer of ornamental plants in Japan, and this event represents a significant opportunity for attendees to explore a diverse range of unique species. The event's highlight includes the well-established W-PLANTS, a greenhouse operation that dates back to 1947. W-PLANTS continues to thrive on its mission of showcasing both local and exotic flora.
Last year marked the successful launch of the first installment of this event, which drew numerous enthusiasts and serious buyers seeking out specific strains. This year, W-PLANTS returns with an expanded selection of over 200 plants, ranging from affordable options under 10,000 yen to rarities exceeding 300,000 yen, ensuring there's something for everyone.
One of the standout features of this year’s event is a collaboration with ceramist Hiromu Kinjō, who is known for producing exquisite ‘Yachimun’ pots. These pots not only enhance the aesthetics of the unique plants but also reflect Okinawa’s rich cultural heritage.
Meet the Experts
In addition to the variety of plants on offer, knowledgeable experts from W-PLANTS will be present during the event to provide insights and guidance. This is a valuable opportunity for those new to plant care as well as seasoned collectors searching for rare specimens. The representatives can share tips on integrating plants into your home and discuss the unique growing conditions of Okinawa’s flora.
Participants will have the chance to meet W-PLANTS’ representative and two other experts, all dedicated to promoting and sharing the appeal of Okinawa's plants. Their expertise will be instrumental for attendees looking to expand their collections or learn about plant care methods.
NewAdditions to the Showcase
This edition of 'Unique Plants of Okinawa' will feature three new local producers who are passionate about their craft. Each has selected plants that exemplify their distinct growing styles. From the efficient propagation methods of Mizutani Gardening to the artistic approach practiced by the growers at Kizuki, every vendor brings a unique flavor to the event. Their commitment to quality ensures that visitors will encounter plants that not only thrive in our homes but also showcase the vitality and character of Okinawa.
Don't Miss Out!
The four-day event will take place in the second floor escalator area of Futako Tamagawa Tsutaya. It runs daily from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, with a closing time of 4:00 PM on the final day. Attendees can explore a variety of plants with prices starting as low as 2,750 yen and going up to 385,000 yen, catering to a wide range of budgets and interests.
