Celebrating International Design Excellence
GOOD PLACE, a renowned architectural firm based in Shibuya, Tokyo, has recently achieved a remarkable feat by winning prestigious accolades at the DNA Paris Design Awards 2025. The two awarded projects, the Kandenfudosan Kyoto Building and THE GOAT AWAJI, reflect the company’s longstanding commitment to creating better spaces through renovation, office construction, and outsourcing back-office operations.
Kandenfudosan Kyoto Building
Award Overview
Aiming for the long-term operation and enhancement of value for the 44-year-old Kandenfudosan Kyoto Building, a transformation project was undertaken to renovate the entrance and landscaping of this historic site, which was previously known as the New Kyoto Center Building. The renovation project thoughtfully incorporated the philosophies of sculptor Kyūhei Shimizu, who designed a monument located on the property, and architect Goichi Takeda, who designed the adjacent building, adding a unique flair to this well-established structure.
The entrance retains its historic grandeur by polishing the existing marble, while the ceiling features decorative elements inspired by Takeda’s design techniques. The landscaping is characterized by fluid pathways interspersed with benches, creating an inviting space filled with greenery. This design aims not only to serve the building’s occupants but also to provide a community oasis for local residents.

THE GOAT AWAJI
Award Overview
The project titled THE GOAT AWAJI embraces the concept of “inviting to another world.” This initiative involved the renovation of a 35-year-old reinforced concrete facility and the construction of two new luxury villas, transforming it into a high-end accommodation destination. By creatively repurposing existing structural elements like beams and shear walls, the project features vaulted ceilings and expansive glass walls, skillfully blending high design aesthetics with functionality.
The interiors and exteriors utilize traditional local materials such as charred wood and Awaji tiles, promoting environmental sustainability while celebrating local culture. Located in Awaji Island, a popular resort area in the Kansai region, the project emphasizes a sense of exclusivity and uniqueness, distinguishing itself from other accommodations.
