Georgia Power Welcomes Arthur Tripp as Vice President of Economic Development
On June 9, 2025, Georgia Power, the foremost electric utility provider in the state, appointed Arthur Tripp as its new vice president of Economic Development. This strategic move builds on the company's robust history of enhancing the economic prospects of Georgia, where it plays a vital role by serving 2.8 million customers and being regarded as a leading utility for economic development for over 25 years.
Tripp takes over the position previously held by Walt Farrell, who has recently transitioned to the role of president and CEO of Atlanta Gas Light and Chattanooga Gas. In his new capacity, Tripp is set to drive initiatives that focus on creating sustainable opportunities for growth and prosperity throughout the state, continuing Georgia Power's legacy of being a top electric utility in economic development efforts.
Trey Kilpatrick, Georgia Power's senior vice president of External Affairs, expressed confidence in Tripp's abilities: “At Georgia Power, we take pride in our enduring relationship with the state, contributing to successful economic development. This collaboration has resulted in new job creation and investments, ultimately fortifying our communities and elevating the quality of life for Georgia families.” Kilpatrick emphasized that strong relationships founded on trust are central to this process, which Tripp’s vast experience and knowledge will bolster.
Before his tenure at Georgia Power, which began in 2024, Tripp played a pivotal role as the state executive director of the USDA Farm Service Agency in Georgia under the Biden administration. His extensive background includes serving as a senior policy advisor to U.S. Representative David Scott, a senior administrator within the University of Georgia’s office of the President, and as a district director for Georgia's 7th Congressional District.
Tripp, a Warner Robins native, holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Georgia. He has also contributed to leadership within the state, completing Leadership Georgia in 2019 and chairing the program for the subsequent class. His engagement with various boards, including the Athens Chamber of Commerce, underscores his commitment to community and economic issues.
Since its establishment nearly a century ago, Georgia Power has been instrumental in the growth and success of Georgia's economy. The company assists new businesses in locating within the state and provides them the energy they need to thrive. Georgia Power's team offers complimentary consultations and support to state officials, site selection consultants, community agencies, and local businesses.
The company prides itself on its regional economic development managers, who are engaged in the communities they serve. This hands-on approach has resulted in over 1,100 projects that have fostered more than 214,000 new jobs and nearly $89 billion in capital investment in the state.
