Namba Marui Hosts Well-being Event Focusing on Carbohydrate Care

Namba Marui Well-being Event: A Focus on Carbohydrate Care

Namba Marui, a renowned retail chain based in Nakano, Tokyo, is set to host a special event at Namba Square, coinciding with World Diabetes Day on November 14, 2025. This initiative, titled "Namba Marui Well-being Event: Everyone's Carbohydrate Care," aims to raise awareness about diabetes and promote healthy approaches to carbohydrate consumption.

Understanding Diabetes and Carbohydrate Balance

According to the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), approximately 589 million adults aged 20 to 79 are living with diabetes globally—equivalent to 1 in 9 people. In Japan, the number of individuals diagnosed with diabetes has surged from 7.1 million in 2000 to an estimated 10.8 million by 2024. This chronic illness can affect anyone, irrespective of their age or body type.

While carbohydrates serve as the body's primary energy source, it is vital to manage their intake wisely. Both excessive and insufficient carbohydrate consumption can pose health risks. Therefore, understanding one’s carbohydrate needs while enjoying delicious meals and maintaining an active lifestyle is key to managing health. The event aims to provide insights into "carbohydrate care" and inspire individuals to reflect on their relationship with diabetes.

Highlights of the Event

The event will host various booths, each offering unique experiences and insights:

Ezaki Glico Booth

Participants can engage in a free measurement workshop where they can assess their body’s glycation levels through simple touch technology. This interactive experience invites attendees to reflect on their carbohydrate consumption habits and learn sustainable carbohydrate care tips applicable to daily life. Those who participate will receive a complimentary pack of "SUNAO Biscuits," a low-carb snack with less than 10g of carbohydrates per pack, made with high-quality ingredients like fermented butter and wheat germ, ensuring a delightful taste without compromising health.

Osaka Prefecture Booth

Osaka Prefecture promotes a community-driven health initiative called "KenKatsu 10," which encourages individuals to adopt ten lifestyle habits focusing on exercise, nutrition, sleep, oral health, and health information utilization. Attendees can learn about this program and the accompanying health app "Asmile," designed to encourage healthy habits among residents. The app allows users to log daily steps and dietary habits, earning points that can be exchanged for electronic money or raffle prizes, making wellness fun and engaging.

IWATA PROJECT Booth

Celebrated Hanshin Tigers Community Ambassador Minoru Iwata has been advocating for children with Type 1 diabetes through his initiative, the "IWATA PROJECT," which started in 2011. Following his retirement in 2021, the project has continued to spread the inspiring message that with determination, dreams are achievable. Iwata’s booth will showcase his ongoing efforts to support children living with diabetes and promote awareness regarding the condition.
