Historic Contract Ratified by Trade Show Workers in Las Vegas

On June 4, 2026, a significant milestone was achieved in Los Angeles when over 2,000 trade show workers, represented by Teamsters Local 631, voted to ratify a robust four-year contract. This agreement, finalized after extensive negotiations, promises to deliver higher wages, improved benefits, and enhanced working conditions for the workers who are pivotal to organizing major trade shows and conventions across the country.

The workforce involved in this contract includes a diverse group of skilled tradespeople such as exhibit builders, riggers, carpet installers, decorators, freight handlers, forklift operators, and aerial riggers. Every year, these professionals play an essential role in hosting large trade shows and conventions that attract millions of visitors, solidifying Las Vegas' reputation as the capital for conventions and expos worldwide.

Tommy Blitsch, the Director of the Teamsters Convention, Trade Show, and Casino Division, expressed the importance of this contract, stating, "Trade show workers are essential to maintaining Las Vegas' title as the convention and expo capital of the world. The Teamsters are raising industry standards because our members are the best in the business and know their worth."

The newly ratified contract is not just about immediate financial benefits; it encompasses a 22% increase in wages and benefits. Additionally, it introduces a larger contribution to the Teamsters Health and Welfare plan, along with enhanced pension benefits for the workers. This contract also incorporates vital protections against automation that could threaten jobs and asserts improved safety measures in the workplace, ensuring that the working environment remains secure and conducive to productivity.

Wanda Vulgamore, a journeyman with over two decades of experience as a member of Local 631, highlighted the collective effort during negotiations. She remarked, "Our committee worked hard to make sure members' voices were heard throughout negotiations. This is the best contract in Las Vegas trade show history, and it sets a strong foundation for our future. I'm proud of what we achieved together."

According to the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, which has been in operation since 1903, this agreement reflects the union's commitment to advocating for over 1.3 million hardworking individuals across the U.S., Canada, and Puerto Rico. The Teamsters pride themselves on representing those who labor diligently, fighting for fair wages and benefits while continuously striving to elevate industry standards.

In summary, the ratification of this historic contract marks a triumph for trade show workers in Las Vegas and sets a precedent that could inspire similar movements in other sectors. With the increased pay and benefits, alongside assurances of job security and safety, these workers can focus on their vital role in supporting thousands of events that highlight and celebrate various industries.
