With traffic accidents predominantly occurring within 500 meters of home, focusing on local roads that children frequently use is critical in reducing risks. Understanding the Traffic Risks for New First Graders

Factors contributing to this risk include children's lower vantage points, making them less likely to see cars, their underdeveloped ability to foresee dangers, and an increase in opportunities for unsupervised activities.

The Initiatives Launched on April 4th

The National Workers' Mutual Aid Cooperative has embraced April 4th as a launching point for broader community engagement in children’s safety awareness. 1. Donation of Traffic Flags: To encourage community involvement, the cooperative's insurance products are tethered to social responsibility initiatives. Since June 2020, one traffic flag has been donated for each quote for the Mutual Aid automobile insurance, totaling over 1.94 million flags distributed to schools and children's community centers nationwide.

2. Traffic Safety Online Classes: By June 25, 2025, the cooperative will conduct online classes focused on traffic safety for elementary school students, with 75 schools participating and 7,104 students expected to attend. The curriculum includes interactive quizzes covering various aspects of pedestrian safety, making the learning process engaging for children.

3. Digital Safety Storybooks: To promote safety awareness among children and parents alike, the cooperative has released a digital storybook titled “Magic Glasses of Enigma” on its official site, which allows families to explore traffic safety together.

4. Collaboration with Kanazawa University: Starting in November 2019, this partnership seeks to gather data on the perspectives and behaviors of seven-year-olds to develop effective methods of decreasing traffic accidents amongst children.

5. Hazard Maps for Safe Navigation: Utilizing collaborative research, the cooperative has created a local hazard map that highlights areas where accidents have previously occurred, aiming to inform parents and children about potential safety hazards.

6. Safety Driving Diagnostics: To assist drivers in recognizing their personality traits that may affect their driving, a free diagnostic tool called “Safe Driving Diagnosis” will be made available on September 19, 2025, offering insights and tips tailored to individual driving styles to minimize accidents.
