Discover the Unique 'Traveling Lighthouse Parfait' Exhibition
The General Incorporated Association Maritime Culture Creation Forum presents the 'Traveling Lighthouse Parfait' exhibition as part of the Japan Foundation’s 'Ocean and Lighthouse Project,' conducted during the 'Lighthouse Week 2025.' This fascinating event will be held at the SOCIAL ISSUE GALLERY 'SIGNAL' in Minato Ward, Tokyo, from November 1 to November 8, celebrating the beauty and history of lighthouses across Japan.
Lighthouses have distinct personalities — there are about 3,000 in Japan, each with its unique character. The exhibition focuses on five selected lighthouses, offering deep insights into their features and charm. Visitors will also encounter the lighthouse character 'Akarinomoribito,' a personification of the lighthouses themselves. Furthermore, there will be engaging audio dramas where these characters tell their stories and attractive photo spots for memorable snapshots.
Among the exciting offerings are five exquisite 'Lighthouse Parfaits,' uniquely crafted to embody the essence of each lighthouse. Patrons can indulge their senses by experiencing delicious tastes inspired by these iconic structures. Here are some highlights:
1.
Lighthouse-Shaped Glass - The parfaits are served in glasses designed to mimic the shape of lighthouses, with layers of ingredients resembling the lighthouse's diverse elements.
2.
Mounded Ingredients - Each parfait features ingredients artfully arranged to reflect the structure of a lighthouse lantern.
3.
Lens Decorations - A selection of sparkling materials simulating the lenses of a lighthouse adds the finishing touch, making each dessert visually stunning.
Featured Parfait: Hiyoriyama Lighthouse
The Hiyoriyama Lighthouse Parfait captures the eye with its red and white stripes, characteristic of this famous lighthouse. It features a delightful arrangement of konnyaku (a jelly-like product) made from locally-produced red wine and velvety yogurt cream. The lantern portion of the parfait is adorned with a cherry, reminiscent of the glass floats used in herring fishing, an integral part of Otaru's maritime history.
For those who wish to enjoy these exclusive treats, reservations are strongly recommended due to their limited availability.
