GiGi's Playhouse Expands Network with New Location in Knoxville, Offering Lifelong Support for Down Syndrome Community

GiGi's Playhouse Expands Its Mission

GiGi's Playhouse, an esteemed network of Down Syndrome Achievement Centers, is proud to announce the grand opening of its 63rd location in Knoxville, Tennessee, on August 8, 2026. This momentous occasion marks a significant leap towards providing free educational and therapeutic programs for individuals with Down syndrome and their families throughout East Tennessee.

A Legacy of Support

Founded by Nancy Gianni and named after her daughter, GiGi, this organization has transformed the lives of countless families by offering programs that range from educational workshops to social engagement opportunities. The Knoxville location is an embodiment of a community's unwavering commitment to inclusivity and support.

"GiGi's Playhouse Knoxville was built by families who refused to accept that opportunity should depend on a diagnosis or a ZIP code," stated Nancy Gianni during the opening ceremony. These words resonate deeply with the many families who have gathered around this shared vision—one that redefines possibilities for individuals with Down syndrome.

The Heart of the Community

The history behind GiGi's Playhouse Knoxville is rich with purpose and passion. Local parents, uncertain about the future of their children, banded together to create a space where they could find resources, connections, and hope. Jessica Hoke, a pivotal member of the startup team, shared how her personal journey fueled her determination to establish this center. She first found solace in GiGi's Playhouse after adopting her son, Ben, and recognized that such a supportive environment was lacking in Knoxville.

"When we moved here, one of the first things my husband and I thought about was bringing a Playhouse to Knoxville. I knew families here deserved to have it, too," Hoke expressed, highlighting the teamwork and community spirit that made this dream a reality.

Lifelong Learning and Growth

The programs offered at GiGi's Playhouse Knoxville are designed to cater to individuals of all ages. From early language development for infants to job preparation for adults, the focus remains on empowering participants to become independent and engaged members of society. Activities will include speech and language development workshops, literacy and math skills lessons, and health and wellness initiatives.

Moreover, GiGi's Playhouse aims to foster community connections beyond just its participants. Parents will find a supportive network where they can share experiences, and siblings will also benefit from the opportunities to connect and engage. Volunteers and community members are encouraged to learn the importance of acceptance and inclusivity through active participation.

A Call for Community Engagement

On the day of the grand opening, families, supporters, and community leaders gathered to celebrate the launch of the Playhouse with various activities, including a ribbon-cutting ceremony and family-friendly interactions.

The event not only marked the beginning of a new chapter but also highlighted the collective hope for all children with Down syndrome. One parent expressed, "Having GiGi's here means my son will have a community and opportunities to develop the skills that will help him feel he belongs in this world."

As GiGi's Playhouse continues to expand its network, it remains committed to changing perceptions about Down syndrome and advocating for the rights and capabilities of individuals with disabilities.

"People with Down syndrome matter. They have dreams, feelings, and extraordinary capabilities. When we stop placing limits on them and instead set high expectations, they demonstrate their immense potential," said GiGi Gianni, summarizing the spirit of the initiative.

Join the Movement

Community members are invited to support the mission of GiGi's Playhouse Knoxville, whether through volunteering, providing financial support, or simply attending its events. The grand opening is not just the start of a new center — it is the launch of an inspiring journey aimed at creating a more inclusive world for individuals with Down syndrome.
