Yutong Bus T15E Showcases Battery Excellence in Cold Testing in Finland
Yutong Bus, a leading global manufacturer of commercial vehicles, has recently completed successful endurance tests of its advanced electric bus model T15E in Finland, continuing a series of rigorous evaluations that began with the U12 model in Norway and the E18Pro in Kazakhstan. The testing aimed to assess the bus's performance under extreme cold, where temperatures plummeted to as low as -20 °C, showcasing its remarkable characteristics on icy roads.
During the tests, the T15E completed a challenging 250-kilometer route on winding, snow-covered roads from Oulu to Rovaniemi. The journey provided insights into energy consumption and electric vehicle performance in harsh conditions. Over a span of 2.5 hours, the T15E demonstrated exceptional energy efficiency, stability, and climbing ability, impressing media representatives Juho Akseli Käki and Tom Alexander Terjesen with its precise handling and luxurious ride quality, further enhanced by modern suspension seating and elegant interior lighting.
In a second test covering 609.8 kilometers from Oulu to Helsinki, the T15E once again operated efficiently in -20 °C temperatures. It consumed only 0.94 kWh/km and finished the trip with the battery charge dropping to just two percent from full. This was a testimony to its capability to perform reliably in severe winter conditions.
Victor Wang, product engineer at Yutong Bus, commented, "The Yutong T15E has proven its ability to maintain stable performance in extremely cold environments thanks to rigorous testing on Arctic ice and snow. The bus offers a range exceeding 600 kilometers, meeting diverse demands for premium intercity bus services."
The T15E's verified performance is supported by cutting-edge technology, including a next-generation battery with a high energy density capacity of 630 kWh. This is coupled with an advanced liquid cooling and heating system that optimizes efficiency in low temperatures. Its synchronous permanent magnet motor achieves a peak efficiency of 97.5%. Furthermore, features such as Yutong’s own effective regenerative braking system and a heat pump-based low-temperature air conditioning system further enhance energy savings and operational reliability.
Equipped with megawatt-level fast charging capabilities, the T15E can fully recharge in just one hour and is compatible with major charging stations across Europe, providing utmost convenience to operators. Advanced safety systems, including electronic braking system (EBS), electronic stability program (ESP), and lane departure warning system (LDWS), additionally bolster reliability and efficiency for long-distance transportation.
Conclusion
With its outstanding performance put to the test in Finland, Yutong Bus's T15E sets a new standard in electric bus technology, particularly for use in challenging climatic conditions. This innovative vehicle represents a significant step forward in sustainable transportation, offering operators reliability and economic efficiency in their service.
