Bahrain Awards Golden Licenses to Four Major Projects in Gateway Gulf 2026

Bahrain's Ambitious Leap into Global Investments

In a move that underscores Bahrain's strategic pivot towards enhancing its economic landscape, the Kingdom has unveiled an investment initiative totaling an astounding $3.89 billion. This investment is part of four major projects recognized at the Gateway Gulf 2026, marking a significant milestone in the nation's commitment to becoming a key player in the regional and global investment arena.

This announcement took place during the fourth edition of Gateway Gulf, held on November 1-2, 2026, at the luxurious Four Seasons Bahrain Bay. Brought together by the Bahrain Economic Development Board (Bahrain EDB), this exclusive forum attracted over 200 esteemed ministers, top government officials globally, visionary CEOs, and investors keen to explore high-value investment opportunities in the Gulf region.

Diverse Projects with Golden Licenses

The four projects that have been awarded Golden Licenses encompass sectors that promise to bolster Bahrain's economic diversification and long-term growth:

1. DHL's Regional Hub: Reinforcing its commitment to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region, DHL plans to establish its first and only regional Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Bahrain International Airport. This state-of-the-art installation will support DHL's expanding fleet and enhance its global operational capabilities from the Kingdom.

2. Capital A's Aviation Ventures: Spearheaded by Capital A, the parent company of AirAsia, this significant endeavor aims to improve connectivity with East Asia and Europe. By enhancing air cargo capacity and progressively growing freight transportation, Bahrain is set to solidify its status as a regional aviation hub, while also boosting local MRO capabilities for aircraft.

3. Meliá Waterfront Development: An iconic waterfront urban project in Amwaj, developed in partnership with Infracorp, will include a five-star hotel and residences under the Meliá brand. This development is expected to elevate Bahrain's premium tourism and lifestyle offerings, further enriching the Kingdom's hospitality landscape.

4. Digital City Bahrain: Positioned as a cutting-edge hub for ICT, innovation, and education, this initiative will provide top-tier infrastructure aimed at attracting tech companies and accelerating the growth of the sector. Digital City Bahrain is set to play a crucial role in advancing the Kingdom's digital ecosystem.

The Team Bahrain Initiative

At the heart of Bahrain's thriving investment environment is the Team Bahrain model—a distinctive approach to public-private collaboration. This initiative brings together the government and the business sector to create the optimal conditions necessary for investment and entrepreneurial activity. The Bahrain EDB plays a pivotal role in this ecosystem, acting as a bridge between investors and the government while driving growth through transformative opportunities.

Bahrain’s continued investment in digital transformation, progressive regulations, and a future-ready workforce is bolstered by a diversified economy, where non-oil sectors account for about 86% of GDP. This strong foundation lays the groundwork for sustainable growth, showcasing Bahrain as a beacon of opportunity for both local and international investors.

Overall, Bahrain's awarding of these Golden Licenses not only marks a key event in Gulf regional development but also highlights the Kingdom's determination to cultivate a robust, diversified economy that can thrive on the global stage.
