Recently, the utility firm completed a comprehensive upgrade of the Carmel Woods Pump Station, a project vital for the reliability of the local water supply. The new pump station is cleverly constructed into the steep slope of the site, providing a seamless integration with the neighboring landscape. "The new design focused on multiple factors, including structural stability, safe access for maintenance, and long-term upkeep," she explained. Key architectural features include robust piers and retaining walls that secure the facility in its hillside location, along with a roof vault and davit crane that facilitate easy access for maintenance crews.
The former pump station, dismantled as part of this project, was sandwiched between two 50,000-gallon water tanks, which are slated for replacement in a future project. This upgrade represents a strategic investment, reinforcing the reliability of a facility critical to the neighborhood while addressing community concerns regarding noise and visual aesthetics.

Construction for this upgrade involved extensive excavation, installation of structural piers, new retaining walls, and integration of a davit crane paired with a roof vault for the facilitation of pump service and replacement. Additionally, the project upgraded existing piping, installed supervisory control and data acquisition equipment (SCADA), improved electrical systems, and established underground drainage systems, safety railings, as well as concrete and decomposed granite walkways.
