Populous Enhances Global Operations with New Key Appointments
Populous, the renowned design and architecture firm, has recently unveiled two essential appointments aimed at bolstering its global operational framework. This move reflects the company’s commitment to enhancing efficiency and integration across its worldwide projects. The newly appointed executives are Gavin Houldin, who takes on the role of Global Chief Operating Officer, and Teryn Hightower, who will lead as Head of Global M&A Integration.
Gavin Houldin, an industry veteran, brings a wealth of experience that is expected to greatly benefit Populous. Previously, he held the position of Senior Vice President and Operations Director at Arcadis, overseeing a vast team of over 600 professionals in North America and managing operations across various regions, including India and the Philippines. His leadership history also includes significant roles at AECOM in both Africa and the United States, equipping him with a diverse skill set that encompasses operational excellence and multi-disciplinary team management.
As the new Global COO, Houldin will prioritize streamlining operations by establishing standardized processes and systems, particularly aimed at optimizing project performance and successful integration of newly acquired businesses. Bruce Miller, CEO and Chair of Populous, expressed confidence in Houldin's capabilities, noting his collaborative approach, client-focused service, and the ability to foster business growth through strategic mergers and acquisitions.
In addition to Houldin's appointment, Teryn Hightower brings crucial experience in mergers and acquisitions to the table as the Head of Global M&A Integration. With a strong background in corporate development and post-merger integration from her tenure at Accenture, Hightower will focus on aligning operational strategies and team structures to meet long-term business objectives. Her role is critical as Populous continues to expand its market reach and client offerings.
Earlier in 2025, Populous announced its acquisition of Fentress Architects, an aviation design firm, which has since evolved into Fentress Studios. This strategic acquisition significantly broadens Populous’s service capabilities, allowing for more comprehensive design solutions to its worldwide clientele.
Both Houldin and Hightower will operate primarily out of Populous’s U.S. headquarters but are tasked with a global scope, collaborating with the firm’s regional offices located in major cities such as Kansas City, London, and Brisbane. Their leadership is seen as pivotal in steering Populous toward its next phase of growth and innovation by enhancing operational workflow and client engagement strategies.
The establishment of these new roles reflects Populous's ongoing commitment to evolve and adapt in a competitive global marketplace. With over four decades of experience and a portfolio exceeding 3,500 projects valued at over $60 billion, the firm remains dedicated to creating enriching experiences that unite people around shared passions. Its array of services spans architecture, interior design, event planning, and various consulting specialties, placing it at the forefront of the design industry.
As Populous continues to build its operational capabilities, the firm is well-positioned to drive forward its mission of fostering human connections through innovative design and architecture. For more information on Populous and its services, please visit
