Uniting for Awareness: Parkinson's Disease in April 2026

The National Alliance for Hispanic Health and the Parkinson's Foundation have joined forces to raise awareness about Parkinson's disease (PD) among Hispanic communities. As part of Parkinson's Awareness Month 2026, the campaign aims to provide credible, science-based information while amplifying the real-life experiences of more than a million individuals living with this progressive neurological disorder in the United States.

This year's theme, "Find Real Answers," has been crafted to connect families and individuals faced with the complexities of a Parkinson's diagnosis with trusted resources. According to John L. Lehr, President and CEO of the Parkinson's Foundation, nearly 90,000 individuals in the U.S. are expected to receive a Parkinson's diagnosis this year, prompting numerous questions and concerns. "We want to assist these individuals and their families in understanding the condition and finding tools to manage their health better," Lehr emphasized.

Jane L. Delgado, President and CEO of the National Alliance for Hispanic Health, added that access to accurate, science-based information is crucial for families dealing with Parkinson's. "By collaborating, we can ensure communities have the necessary resources to make informed decisions about their health," she stated.

In April, the Foundation will encourage people to explore avenues for answers to their Parkinson's-related questions. One innovative tool introduced is the AI-powered chat feature, Ask PAM (Parkinson's Assistance Messenger), which provides reliable answers sourced from Parkinson.org. Additionally, individuals can reach out to the Foundation's Helpline at 1-800-4PD-INFO (1-800-473-4636) and select option 3 for Spanish assistance, speaking with information specialists who are available to help in both languages. The National Hispanic Family Health Helpline, which can be reached at 1-866-783-2645 or 1-866-SuFamilia, also offers information regarding local clinics in English and Spanish.

To further support awareness, the Foundation has launched a new public service announcement (PSA) in English and Spanish featuring real community members who have sought guidance and support from the Foundation. These impactful stories serve to encourage others facing similar challenges to seek help and community engagement. The PSA is available for viewing at Parkinson.org/PSA. Robert Baittie, a 14-year Parkinson's advocate featured in the PSA, voiced that receiving a diagnosis of Parkinson's often leads to feelings of isolation. He recalls that the Parkinson's Foundation was instrumental in helping him find the community and support he needed. He shared his insights on the importance of sharing experiences and maintaining mindfulness.

Moreover, to enrich this year's campaign, the Foundation has developed an interactive quiz designed to assess participants' knowledge about Parkinson's disease.
