Celebrate 100 Years of Paul Mauriat
This weekend marks a significant occasion for music enthusiasts as tickets for the additional Tokyo performance of the Paul Mauriat 100th Anniversary Concert will officially go on sale on May 31st at 10 AM. Originally, the event was nearly sold out, reflecting not just the popularity of the concert but also the heightened interest in celebrating this remarkable milestone.
Scheduled for two days on July 31 and August 1, 2025, the concert will take place at the Tokyo International Forum Hall A, with performances commencing at 1 PM on both days. Due to overwhelming demand, an additional performance has been added on July 31, starting at 5:30 PM. General ticket sales for this extra performance will also launch on May 31.
Paul Mauriat, the renowned French composer and conductor, is beloved for his memorable compositions, including “Love is Blue,” “The Olive Tree,” and “Tears of the Sea.” His music has left an indelible mark, not just in France but around the globe, bringing the soothing genre of “easy listening” to millions. Notably, Mauriat held nearly 1,000 concerts in Japan, significantly influencing the local music scene which continues to resonate today.
This concert will be the only “official” event that uses Mauriat’s original scores with the approval of Madame Irène, his wife. The renowned conductor Shinpei Sasaki, known for his slim and elegant conducting style, will lead the orchestra. The “Paul Mauriat Love Sounds Orchestra,” formed by top musicians in Japan, brings the classic charm of the “LOVE SOUNDS” music era to life, originally popular in the mid-70s.
Enhanced by a unique arrangement that includes trumpet sections and a drum set, this orchestra can also express pop elements alongside classical music. With a harpsichordist and pianists onboard, the performance promises a hybrid configuration that is fitting for recreating Mauriat’s enchanting musical world. Sasaki emphasizes the high level of skill and expression that this orchestra brings to the stage.
In terms of repertoire, concertgoers can expect a wide array of pieces. From intense compositions to melancholic tunes and gentle tracks, each selected piece carries a spectrum of emotions. The stage lighting and set designs will contribute to the overall experience, ensuring that attendees can enjoy the concert not just as music but as an entertainment show that resonates with their feelings.
As summer approaches and temperatures rise, guests are invited to experience refreshing moments through the soothing sounds of Paul Mauriat’s music.
