Celebrate Chip Star Day!

July 7 is now officially "Chip Star Day" as announced by Yamazaki Biscuit Co., Ltd., located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. This day has been established to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Chip Star, a popular brand of potato chips created in 1976. To express gratitude for the love shown over the decades, a special prayer was conducted at the World Heritage Site, Shimogamo Shrine in Kyoto. The prayer signifies a hope that Chip Star will continue to be at the heart of everyone’s smiles for the next fifty years and beyond.

Exciting Events in Kyoto

In line with the celebrations, Chip Star will have a special booth at Shimogamo Shrine's annual Mitara Festival from July 18 to July 24. With around 150,000 visitors expected, the booth will offer fun experiences for all ages. Attendees can engage with the following activities:

• - Chip Star Wish Plate: Visitors can write their wishes on a Chip Star icon-shaped plate. This activity is part of the "Connecting Wishes with Chip Star" initiative, and the plates will be distributed for free, particularly aimed at children.
• - Photo Spots: A unique photo spot featuring original red lanterns will allow families to capture memories. By posting their wishes on social media, participants can also receive a special "Connecting Wishes with Chip Star" gift.
• - Special Stickers: Limited edition stickers resembling Chip Star lids will be distributed at the booth, making for a perfect collectible.

Chip Star Day’s Special Significance

The name "Chip Star" was inspired by the dream of becoming the number one star in the potato chip market. The date of July 7 also coincides with Japan's Tanabata festival, where people make wishes upon stars. Thus, this date has been officially recognized by the Japan Anniversary Association as Chip Star Day, emphasizing the importance of sharing joy and hope.

National Participation and Online Campaigns

For those unable to join in Kyoto, Chip Star has initiated the "Chip Star Star Wish Offering Campaign" from July 17 to July 30. Participants can share their wishes on social media, and among those who post, lucky winners will receive a set of prayer-consecrated Chip Star snacks.

In addition to the events in Kyoto, Chip Star will also host a ring toss game during the Shiodome Summer School 2026. This two-day event, scheduled for July 25 and 26, aims to provide fun learning experiences for children and families, allowing them to enjoy moments filled with laughter alongside the beloved snack.

Additionally, to celebrate the anniversary, a new flavor, "Chip Star L Kyoshichimi" has been introduced, highlighting the exquisite taste of traditional Kyoto's seven-spice blend.
