Leaders Gather in Hanoi to Advance the Multilingual Internet at ICANN DNS Forum
ICANN DNS Forum 2025 in Hanoi: Shaping a Multilingual Internet
The International Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) is set to host its fourth Domain Name System (DNS) Forum in the Asia-Pacific region, scheduled to occur on May 8th and 9th, 2025, at the InterContinental Hanoi Landmark 72 in Hanoi, Vietnam. This pivotal gathering aims to gather various stakeholders to discuss significant developments and prospects for a more multilingual Internet.
The theme of this year's forum revolves around fostering language and script diversity within the DNS, a key component for making the Internet more inclusive for hundreds of millions of users across the globe. With the increasing importance of internet accessibility, particularly for individuals using a range of languages and scripts, the discussions will aim to identify means through which inclusivity can be fostered.
One of the standout sessions will include an opening plenary featuring notable speakers discussing the future landscape of the Internet and the domain name infrastructure. Participants will review ongoing missions aimed at onboarding the next one billion Internet users—a crucial topic as global digital connectivity continues to expand.
Additionally, the 20-year review of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS+20) outcomes will be evaluated for its implications on the APAC region, adding further depth to the conversation.
Among those attending the ICANN DNS Forum are ICANN Board Chair Tripti Sinha, ICANN President and CEO Kurtis Lindqvist, and board members alongside representatives from the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC) and various business and technical sectors. Samiran Gupta, Vice President and Managing Director of ICANN APAC, expressed enthusiasm about hosting this forum in Hanoi, a city rich in history and culture. He stated, “We are eager to hear the voices from the region on critical topics regarding the future of the Internet.”
In tandem with this forum, VNNIC's Director General, Nguyen Hong Thang, conveyed pride in hosting an event that engages experts and communities involved in the domain name industry in the APAC area.
