Samsung Unveils One UI 8.5 for Galaxy Devices
Samsung Electronics Japan has announced the rollout of its latest user interface,
One UI 8.5, for current models of Samsung Galaxy smartphones and tablets. Initially available for the Samsung Galaxy S26 series and the Galaxy A57 5G released in 2026, One UI 8.5 will now support all models launched from the Galaxy S23 series onwards.
This updated interface has evolved to handle tedious tasks while providing timely suggestions based on user preferences and usage patterns. The integration of AI at a deeper level enhances productivity and allows for greater creative expression.
Enhanced Features in One UI 8.5
Quick Share Expands with AirDrop Compatibility
One of the major updates within One UI 8.5 is the expansion of
Quick Share. This feature allows users to swiftly and securely share files like photos, videos, and documents between Samsung Galaxy devices. With the latest update, several existing Galaxy smartphones will now also support AirDrop. Previously, Quick Share limited data sharing to Bluetooth notifications between Android devices. However, users can now share data seamlessly with iOS devices as well.
Forget the limitations of sending only a few files at a time; now, users can send and receive an unlimited number of files without size restrictions. Notable devices compatible with Quick Share's new features include the
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7, Z Fold6, Z Flip6, S25, S25 Ultra, S24, and S24 Ultra. It's essential to have an updated Samsung account and ensure that Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections are enabled.
Photo Assist: AI-Enhanced Editing
The
Photo Assist tool has undergone significant upgrades, allowing users to employ AI for guided photo editing just by providing textual instructions. With this feature, one can easily change a daytime scene to nighttime or restore missing parts of an image. For instance, it can naturally fill in gaps in a cake that’s partially eaten. The new capabilities enable users to modify clothes in photographs to hide stains, providing a smoother editing experience that allows for multiple edits and undoing changes seamlessly.
Creativity Unleashed with Creative Studio
Additionally, the new
Creative Studio feature lets users create and save stamp sets for use in messaging and photo editing. It also extends to generating invites, profile cards, and wallpapers—broadening avenues for creative expression in everyday tasks.
Product Expansion: More SIM-free Models for au Starlink Direct
In a related announcement, Samsung also updated its list of supported SIM-free devices for
au Starlink Direct, adding six new models, raising the total to 18 products. The newly added devices include the
Samsung Galaxy Z Fold5, Z Flip5, S24 FE, S23 Ultra, A36 5G, and
A25 5G models, which will be available post-mid-June 2026.
To take full advantage of these features, users will need to apply for the au SIM. Actual availability will be announced shortly on the au Starlink Direct site, catering to enhanced connectivity for users taking advantage of Samsung’s technological innovations.
Through One UI 8.5, Samsung continues to lead in the smartphone market, blending functionality with creativity and ensuring that its users have access to a more integrated and enjoyable experience. These innovations not only cater to individual preferences and work needs but also represent a substantial step forward in how users interact with their devices.
