Hampton University Welcomes Robert Pompey as CFO

In a significant move for the financial future of Hampton University, President Darrell K. Williams announced the appointment of Robert Pompey, CPA, as the institution's new Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Senior Vice President for Business and Finance. This transition is poised to not only bolster the university's financial health but also streamline its operational processes and educational programs.

Pompey will be reporting directly to President Williams, taking charge of all aspects related to Business Affairs and Finance. With a robust track record in finance, Pompey's expertise is expected to facilitate substantial changes aimed at enhancing the university's infrastructure, reducing costs, and incorporating advanced technological solutions that improve operational efficiencies. President Williams expressed confidence in Pompey's capacity to contribute to a thriving campus environment, essential for fostering both academic success and holistic student development.

Before taking the helm at Hampton University, Pompey honed his skills as the Vice Chancellor for Business and Finance at North Carolina A&T State University for nearly 20 years. During his tenure, he led key initiatives that elevated the university's financial standing and backed significant capital ventures that transformed the academic landscape. His educational qualifications include a bachelor's degree in accounting from North Carolina A&T State University and an MBA from Wake Forest University, making him well-equipped to navigate the complexities of financial management in higher education and beyond.

As CFO, Pompey will oversee the university's comprehensive financial operations, which include budgeting, investments, financial reporting, and establishing a sustainable fiscal strategy for long-term growth. Additionally, he will be responsible for human resources, campus facilities, and public safety, playing a pivotal role in enhancing operational effectiveness across various departments.

The timing of this appointment aligns perfectly with Hampton's ongoing efforts to modernize its campus and strengthen its financial framework. Recent projects, like the renovation of the historical steam plant and upgrades to numerous residence halls, testify to the university's commitment to fostering an optimal learning environment. Notably, infrastructural advancements, including the installation of 100G high-speed internet, are also on the agenda, reflecting Hampton's mission to provide a world-class academic experience.

Pompey’s extensive background in managing intricate financial portfolios will undoubtedly support the university's mission to innovate and grow, especially as it strives to advance research capabilities and offer enhanced educational opportunities. His leadership is seen as crucial for implementing financial strategies that align with the university's aspirations for academic excellence and student success.

Pompey is excited about his new role at Hampton University, remarking, "I’m honored to join an institution that prides itself on a rich legacy of educational excellence and leadership. I look forward to collaborating with President Williams, the Board of Trustees, and the entire university community to ensure our financial strength and continued success."
