Introducing the New Kodomo Curie School: A Safe and Creative After-School Environment in Shirokanedai

New Beginnings: Kodomo Curie School Set to Open in June 2026

The Kodomo Curie School in Shirokanedai is eagerly anticipated to launch in June 2026, following the certification from Tokyo. Managed by Vision Gate, established in 2010, this new private after-school program aims to provide children with a safe haven while fostering their creativity and personal growth. Over the past 15 years, Vision Gate has successfully catered to the educational needs of around 2,500 children, employing an innovative inquiry-based learning approach.

A Shift in Perspective: From Daycare to Creative Learning Spaces

The inception of the Kodomo Curie School is rooted in the idea of creating a learning environment where students actively participate in shaping their classrooms. Since opening its doors in 2011, the Shirokanedai branch has maintained a strong community presence by emphasizing the development of individual agency, collaboration, and leadership skills through specialized learning programs. In addition to its local impact, the program has expanded to other significant areas in Tokyo, including Omotesando, Nihonbashi, Myogadani, and even reached Bangkok.

As the number of dual-income families increases in Minato Ward, the demand for a safe and engaging after-school environment is also on the rise. Parents are keen for programs that go beyond mere supervision, seeking high-quality educational experiences for their children. With this in mind, the Shirokanedai School is set to offer the following benefits:

  • - A Public Assurance: The school meets stringent safety standards set by Minato Ward and the Tokyo government, ensuring a secure and reliable operation.

  • - Integrated Inquiry Learning: Instead of treating special classes as separate, STEAM education will be seamlessly integrated into daily activities, enhancing the overall learning experience.

  • - Community Synergy: The school aims to leverage its surrounding educational resources, such as parks and museums, to foster a more interconnected curriculum.

The Three Pillars of Kodomo Curie School

1. Flexible Usage Models: The after-school program offers versatile options, allowing families to choose from weekly plans ranging from once a week to six times a week. Additionally, a pre-registered drop-in system will be available. The program will extend its hours during long school breaks, starting as early as 8 AM, and will also provide Saturday services.

2. Participatory Management: Enabling the students to engage in decision-making processes—such as organizing activities and establishing rules through children’s assemblies—promotes vital skills in leadership and teamwork, integral for real-world success.

3. Comprehensive STEAM and Project-Based Learning: The curriculum includes five distinct courses—Robotics, Global Communications (English), Arts, Science Experiments, and Literacy—offered on varying days. This method encourages students to approach 'open-ended challenges' by collaborating with peers to think critically and articulate their thoughts effectively.
