Arcwood Environmental Strengthens Presence with Acquisition of Safeway Services in the Southeast

Arcwood Environmental Acquires Safeway Industrial Services and Safeway Environmental Services

In a significant development in the field of sustainable waste management, Arcwood Environmental has recently announced its acquisition of Safeway Industrial Services and Safeway Environmental Services, two companies based in Alabama. This strategic move is aimed at broadening Arcwood's operational reach and enhancing its capabilities in waste transportation and management across the Southeastern United States.

According to HP Nanda, the CEO of Arcwood Environmental, the acquisition is not just about expanding services but also about enhancing service quality. He remarked, "We continue to expand the breadth and depth of our field and environmental services platform with the addition of Safeway. Their expertise in specialized hazardous and non-hazardous waste transportation, combined with strong customer relationships and an experienced team, strengthens our ability to serve customers nationwide." This statement underscores the focus not just on growth, but on maintaining a commitment to excellence in service.

Safeway operates a diverse fleet that includes over 100 tagged assets such as tankers, vacuum trucks, and specialized trailers. The company employs approximately 60 personnel, all of whom are expected to join Arcwood’s rapidly expanding team. Safeway’s operational strengths include hazardous and non-hazardous waste hauling, chemical cleaning, tank cleaning, lab packing, and emergency spill response services. This breadth of services complements Arcwood's existing offerings and reinforces its position as a leader in environmental services in North America.

The acquisition adds three primary locations in Alabama to Arcwood's portfolio, which not only enhances geographical coverage but also fortifies its hub-and-spoke network. This network is essential for improving support for both multi-site and national customers, allowing for more efficient service delivery across a wider area. Andrew Wood, CEO of Safeway, expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, stating, "We have long admired and respected Arcwood and its leadership in the environmental services sector. Through this acquisition process, we have confirmed that our two companies have similar values in delivering for customers, advancing innovation, leading with safety, and working together as a team."

In the past 18 months, Arcwood has made substantial investments—over hundreds of millions—into various acquisitions, including EBV, MXI, ERG Environmental Group, and Innovative Recycling Technologies. Each of these moves has been strategic in broadening Arcwood's geographic reach and enhancing its service capabilities, particularly in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, and, now, the Southeast. This consistent investment strategy indicates a focus on growth and innovation within the waste management industry.

A Commitment to Sustainability

Arcwood Environmental prides itself on its commitment to sustainability. Through the strategic acquisition of companies like Safeway, Arcwood not only expands its operational capabilities but also enhances its potential to minimize environmental impact. The company aims to partner with both Fortune 500 companies and local enterprises from various industries, including pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and advanced manufacturing, to effectively address the challenges associated with industrial waste.

More than just expanding reach, the acquisition represents a merging of philosophies and values centered around environmental stewardship and customer satisfaction. By integrating Safeway’s expertise into its operational framework, Arcwood aims to deliver exceptional service while upholding its mission of minimizing waste impacts and maintaining a sustainable future for all.

In summary, this acquisition marks a pivotal moment in Arcwood Environmental’s journey, solidifying its position as a proactive player in environmental services. The combination of resources, expertise, and commitment to service excellence promises to serve Arcwood well as it continues to tackle complex waste management challenges on both a national and local scale.
