Qnovo Introduces Enhanced Battery Genome Application for Electric Vehicles

Qnovo, a frontrunner in battery intelligence software, recently announced an innovative pilot program for its new Battery Genome application designed specifically for electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This application aims to provide Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) with a more precise understanding of battery health, risks, and overall value, ultimately addressing industry-wide uncertainties about used electric vehicles.

As EVs become a common sight on roadways, there exists considerable variability in how batteries age. Two batteries of identical age and mileage can deteriorate differently due to diverse driving habits, environmental conditions, and inherent differences at the cell level. Unfortunately, the limited data currently available in the used car market often fails to distinguish among these factors, complicating the pricing and valuation of pre-owned EVs.

With the impending regulation from the European Union set to take effect on February 18, 2027, mandating digital battery passports for every EV battery sold within its borders, the necessity for rich and comprehensive battery data becomes even more pressing. While basic data contained in these passports can bolster transparency, it often falls short in identifying critical defects or accelerated aging at the cell level, posing significant liability risks for OEMs tasked with certifying healthy batteries.

To mitigate these uncertainties, Qnovo leverages the unique data obtained from the vehicles themselves. Partnering with automotive OEMs, the company applies its Battery Genome framework to analyze the complete electrochemical history of batteries. This includes a detailed assessment of charging patterns, operating temperatures, exposure to various environmental factors, and cell-to-cell variances. Equipped with this in-depth information, the application is capable of pinpointing markers indicative of expedited aging or hidden defects. Consequently, it projects how a specific battery is likely to degrade over time, offering OEMs an enhanced, risk-adjusted insight into their batteries along with a clearer assessment of the residual value.

Nadim Maluf, Qnovo’s CEO, emphasized the significance of this innovation, stating, “While battery passports promise greater transparency, the lack of detailed battery insights can expose OEMs to significant liabilities. Our Battery Genome technology taps into the rich data already present in the vehicle, allowing us to confidently delineate a battery's performance and risks.” His assertion highlights the potential for this application to provide OEMs with confidence in their battery assessments and assurance when certifying their health.

Qnovo isn’t a newcomer to the automotive sector, with its software already integrated into numerous vehicles. This new Battery Genome application is intended to augment the existing technology stack that includes solutions for Adaptive Fast Charging and Health and Safety Diagnostics. It aligns well with the evolving landscape of software-defined vehicles, providing a natural extension to Qnovo’s offerings.

The company plans to demonstrate the capabilities of this cutting-edge application at The Battery Show North America, taking place in Detroit from October 13-15, 2026. This event will serve as a crucial platform for Qnovo to showcase its advancements in battery safety and performance optimization.

In summary, Qnovo is paving the path for greater battery transparency in the electric vehicle industry. Through the integration of advanced analytics and real-time data, the Battery Genome application not only represents a breakthrough in understanding battery longevity and value but also contributes to escalating confidence among manufacturers and consumers alike. As more EVs enter the market, solutions like Qnovo's are expected to play a vital role in shaping the future of sustainable automotive technology.
