CPKC's 2025 Holiday Train Kicks Off
Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) is set to launch its enchanting 2025 Holiday Train on November 19, with its inaugural show taking place in Montreal, Quebec. This beloved annual event, now in its 27th year, aims to spread joy through music while supporting community food banks across North America. The initiative combines festive performances with a valuable purpose: assisting families facing food insecurity.
The 2025 Holiday Train promises an expansive schedule featuring
196 live music performances across six Canadian provinces and 13 states in the U.S. This year, CPKC will visit
13 new communities for the first time, with stops extending to places such as Maine, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Texas, and Ontario. Some of the highlights include performances by renowned artists like
Barenaked Ladies,
Smash Mouth, and
Tyler Shaw, among others.
Keith Creel, President and CEO of CPKC, expressed his excitement about the Holiday Train's journey this year, stating, "Every year, our railroaders take great pride in bringing the Holiday Train across our network, this year reaching even more communities for the first time. We've seen communities unite to celebrate the holiday season while backing local food banks."
Impact of the Holiday Train
Since its inception in 1999, the Holiday Train has raised over
$26 million and collected more than
5.4 million pounds of food. This staggering support directly benefits food banks across both Canada and the U.S. Mary Ostapenko Anstett, president of East Side Neighborhood Services in Minneapolis, articulated the importance of the Holiday Train, saying, "It brings hope and critical support at a time when it's needed most."
The unique atmosphere of the train is enhanced by its elaborate light displays and community-driven musical performances that encapsulate the holiday spirit. While attending the events is free, CPKC encourages patrons to contribute through monetary donations or heart-healthy food items. Each event stop features local food banks eager to collect donations from attendees.
Furthermore, this year’s Holiday Train will debut a new light display honoring the legacy of the iconic 'Rudy' train and the Kansas City Southern Holiday Express, which has served the southern U.S. for nearly 25 years.
Ed Robertson from the Barenaked Ladies expressed his enthusiasm for participating, stating, "I can't imagine a better way to visit some of Canada’s beautiful mountain towns than by riding the CPKC Holiday Train. It's going to be a great time for a great cause!"
