Encompass Health and BSA Health System Collaborate on New Rehabilitation Hospital in Amarillo, Texas

On August 15, 2025, Encompass Health Corp., the largest operator of inpatient rehabilitation facilities in the United States, joined forces with BSA Health System to create a joint venture aimed at revolutionizing rehabilitation healthcare in Amarillo, Texas. The project involves building a new, state-of-the-art, 50-bed rehabilitation hospital at 7950 Wallace Boulevard, specifically designed to meet the needs of patients recovering from debilitating illnesses and injuries such as strokes, brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and complex orthopedic conditions.

Construction of the new hospital is currently underway, and it is projected to open its doors to patients by late 2025. The facility will replace BSA's existing 24-bed rehabilitation unit, which will move to the new premises once completed. This transition will allow BSA to expand its acute care capacity in the region, effectively improving healthcare services for the community.

The new rehabilitation hospital will provide comprehensive care tailored to those in recovery. Patients can expect 24-hour nursing care, alongside a full range of therapies such as physical, occupational, and speech therapy, aimed at restoring their functional abilities and enhancing their overall quality of life. The facility will be staffed by highly trained and specialized nurses, therapists, and physicians dedicated to delivering exceptional care.

Among its key features, the hospital will offer private patient rooms, a spacious therapy gym equipped with advanced rehabilitation technologies, a suite for activities of daily living, an in-house dialysis suite, and various amenities such as a pharmacy, dining room, and therapy courtyard. These facilities are designed with the goal of creating an encouraging and rehabilitative environment for all patients.

Craig Funk, the president of Encompass Health's Southwest region, expressed enthusiasm over the partnership. He stated, "We are excited to partner with BSA to help patients in the Amarillo community reach their rehabilitation goals and return to what matters most. We share a commitment to delivering high-quality patient experiences and outcomes and look forward to the positive impact this hospital will have on the lives of many."

Michael Cruz, the CEO of BSA Health System, highlighted the importance of this collaboration: "This partnership is a significant step forward for healthcare in Amarillo. By expanding acute care capacity and joining forces with a national leader in rehabilitation, we're enhancing the level of care available to our community. We're also proud that our experienced rehabilitation team will continue serving patients at the new facility, ensuring continuity of care with the same expertise our patients trust."

This new venture will not only enhance the community's access to specialized rehabilitation services but will also integrate into Encompass Health's growing national network of inpatient rehabilitation hospitals. With facilities across 38 states and Puerto Rico, Encompass Health is committed to providing high-quality, compassionate care for patients recovering from serious health setbacks.

Encompass Health has consistently ranked among Fortune's World’s Most Admired Companies™ and Forbes’ Most Trusted Companies in America.
