Martijn Bergink Named President of Alfa Laval's Marine Division Starting September 2025

Martijn Bergink to Lead Alfa Laval's Marine Division

Alfa Laval, a renowned global provider of products and services in heat transfer, separation, and fluid handling, has made a significant leadership change by appointing Martijn Bergink as the new President of its Marine Division. This transition is effective from September 1, 2025, and reflects the company's commitment to strengthen its leadership in the marine industry.

Martijn Bergink has had an extensive career at Alfa Laval, joining the company in 1998. Over the years, he has assumed various senior roles, primarily within the Marine Division, which has equipped him with a robust understanding of the industry's dynamics and developments. In addition to his new presidential role, Bergink will maintain his position as Managing Director of Framo, another Alfa Laval-owned company, and continue to preside over the Business Unit Pumping Systems within the Marine Division.

Tom Erixon, CEO and President of Alfa Laval, expressed confidence in Bergink's leadership capabilities. He noted, "Martijn has had a long and successful career in Alfa Laval and possesses a deep knowledge and understanding of the dynamics and developments in the marine industry." This expertise will be crucial as the company embraces the evolving needs of its customers and the broader industry landscape.

In 2024, Alfa Laval's Marine Division was responsible for 40% of the company’s order intake, underscoring its importance to the overall business. Employing approximately 6,300 of the group’s 22,300 global workforce, the Division is pivotal in delivering a wide spectrum of products and services designed to enhance energy efficiency, facilitate decarbonization, promote digitalization, and ensure compliance with environmental regulations.

Bergink expressed enthusiasm for his new role, stating, "I am honored and excited by the opportunity to lead the Marine Division. I look forward to further developing the business to meet future customer needs as we continue the decarbonization journey and seize the opportunities ahead of us." His vision includes working closely with Group Management to navigate the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for both Alfa Laval and the marine industry as a whole.

The change in leadership comes as the current President of the Marine Division, Sameer Kalra, prepares to retire after a noteworthy tenure at Alfa Laval. Kalra joined the company following its acquisition of Aalborg Industries in 2011 and has played a vital role in the growth and success of the Marine Division. His efforts have been instrumental in advancing product development and technologies aimed at supporting the decarbonization of the merchant fleet. In his farewell comments, Kalra reflected on his journey, saying, "It has been a big privilege to lead the transformation of the Marine Division through the ongoing energy transition. I have truly enjoyed being a part of the team on this journey. Now I am looking forward to more family time from my home base in Singapore."

Tom Erixon acknowledged Kalra's contributions, stating, "Sameer Kalra is leaving the Marine Division and the Marine team in very good shape to continue its journey. He has shaped the business, the portfolio, and our culture more than most."

As Bergink steps into his new role, he will be at the forefront of steering the Marine Division to address the critical challenges of decarbonization while leveraging innovation to deliver value to customers worldwide. The focus on enhancing operational efficiency and compliance with stringent environmental standards remains paramount as Alfa Laval progresses toward achieving a sustainable future.

With a rich history spanning over 140 years and a presence in 100 countries, Alfa Laval continues to make strides in innovation and sustainability, dedicated to supporting customers in achieving their operational goals while promoting a healthier planet. The company’s ongoing initiatives underline its commitment to optimizing processes, ensuring responsible growth, and championing progress in the industry. As Martijn Bergink takes on his leadership duties, the marine sector of Alfa Laval looks forward to continued advancements and positive impacts within the marine landscape.
