MHS Serves Launches Initiative to Address Youth Mental Health Disparities

MHS Serves Launches Youth Mental Health Empowerment Program

MHS Serves, a health equity initiative from Managed Health Services (MHS), is taking significant steps to address youth mental health challenges in Indiana. With over 25 years of dedicated service in the state, MHS is committed to improving health equity by promoting access to essential mental health resources for underserved populations.

On January 7, 2025, the organization announced its latest funding opportunity aimed at community organizations focused on the mental health of children and adolescents. The Youth Mental Health Empowerment Program intends to bolster existing programs and create new initiatives that enhance access to healthcare, mental health services, and trauma-informed care.

Collaborating with the Indiana Minority Health Coalition (IMHC) and Black Onyx Management, MHS Serves plans to implement strategies that ensure historically marginalized communities benefit from mental health resources. This partnership will utilize funds for various purposes, including:
  • - Professional Development: Training opportunities for mental health providers to enhance their skills.
  • - Program Implementation Resources: Funding for launching or improving mental health initiatives.
  • - Technical Assistance: Expert consulting services to support organizations in their efforts.
  • - Infrastructure Enhancements: Upgrades to facilities offering direct mental health care or increasing the number of access points.
  • - Public Awareness Campaigns: Promoting mental health resources through social media and community events to encourage greater awareness and engagement.

Christina Hage, Interim President and CEO of MHS, emphasized the critical nature of the mental health services for youth, stating, "The demand for youth mental health services is a pressing concern in our communities. By funding professional support and raising public awareness, we are taking focused actions to improve the health of the communities we serve."

The application period for this funding opportunity commenced on January 7, 2025, and organizations are encouraged to apply through the MHS Serves Application Portal. The application deadline is set for February 20, 2025 at 11:59 PM ET. MHS Serves will also host information sessions to assist potential applicants in understanding the process better. These sessions are scheduled for:
  • - January 16, 2025, from 10-11 AM ET
  • - January 29, 2025, from 11 AM-12 PM ET
  • - February 7, 2025, from 11 AM-12 PM ET

Organizations with questions can reach out via email for clarification about the application process or attend these informative sessions.

In summary, MHS is reinforcing its commitment to transforming the landscape of youth mental health in Indiana through targeted support for community initiatives.
