This fresh label offers stylish yet relaxed daily wear, designed to bring out a crisp and clean aesthetic in every outfit. From May 22nd to 24th, the brand will host its inaugural pop-up event at Nakata Bakery, located near Inokashira Park, allowing visitors to experience the essence of Mergen//Kenji firsthand.
Launch Event Details
The launch event titled "42°℃ degrees with fog" will take place at:
- May 22: 13:00 - 20:00 (Drinks and light meals provided)
- May 23 & 24: 10:00 - 18:00
- - Location: Nakata Bakery
Key Items from the Collection
Mergen//Kenji focuses on versatile main pieces including blousons, shirts, and pants that cater to all ages and genders. The designs prioritize comfort and the feeling of natural ease while maintaining a visually striking structure through horizontal and vertical patterns. All materials are sourced from Japanese factories, ensuring quality and craftsmanship.
The collection showcases a color palette that emphasizes the presence of light, featuring shades of navy, white, pink, yellow, and brown. These colors draw inspiration from the pop-up title, evoking a sense of transparency reminiscent of a non-existent dry humidity.
During the pop-up, attendees will find:
- - 3 blousons
- - 2 shirts
- - 1 jacket
- - 2 pants
- - 1 scarf
Both ready-to-purchase and made-to-order items will be available, giving everyone the chance to engage directly with the brand.
The Signature Blouson: Asura
One standout piece, the blouson named "Asura," appears to have substantial weight but feels incredibly light as it is worn. The design aims to bridge the gap between formal and casual wear. Thoughtful use of curved seams helps to maintain volume while allowing for a sleek silhouette. It combines rich navy linen with deep indigo wool, creating an interplay of colors that shifts with the light, adding depth to the garment.
The Rice Basic Blouson
Another unique offering is the "Rice Basic" blouson, which incorporates ribbing and clever design elements to keep the zipper discreet, ensuring a polished look from the front. Utilizing soft, natural colors inspired by lush landscapes, this piece embodies the harmony between individuals, space, and nature.
A New Approach to Fashion
The founder of Mergen//Kenji, Kenji Hayashi, has long felt disenchanted with the fashion industry's focus on mass production without a clear purpose. His mission is to create garments that reflect thoughtful handmade production methods outside the realm of both mass production and one-off designs. Customers can place orders that will be handmade in the brand’s atelier within a minimum of two weeks.
Rather than adhering to a seasonal release schedule, Mergen//Kenji introduces items gradually, allowing flexibility for consumers to order and purchase throughout the year.
A Series of Pop-ups
Aiming to immerse the audience in unique environments, the brand will host pop-ups in special locations. A picturesque series will visit:
- - Yutenji in July
- - Miura Peninsula in August
- - Higashi-Izu in September
The concept embraces the philosophy of enjoying nature and changing surroundings while wearing Mergen//Kenji designs. The official e-commerce site will operate as a gallery, showcasing items and artwork, with direct purchasing and ordering options available.
