Revitalizing Local Communities Through Corporate and Financial Collaboration

Revitalizing Local Communities Through Corporate and Financial Collaboration

On October 23, 2025, Renoveru Inc., a Tokyo-based renovation platform that promotes the utilization and circulation of real estate stock, participated in an event titled "MUSUBU! JAPAN DAY -Connecting to Japan’s Markets-" during the Japan Weeks organized by the Financial Services Agency. Renoveru's CEO, Tomohiro Yamashita, joined the bank's president, Minoru Yagi from Shizuoka Bank, in presenting the theme of "Revitalization of Local Communities through Corporate and Financial Collaboration." The event aimed to highlight opportunities for local revitalization stemming from the partnership between the two companies.

Background of the Event

Japan Weeks serves as a platform for the government’s initiatives to establish Japan as an international financial center and a hub for asset management. The third iteration of this event took place from October 20 to 24, 2025, featuring various activities designed to enhance communication with overseas investors.

Within this framework, the Japan Bankers Association spearheaded the "MUSUBU! JAPAN DAY -Connecting to Japan’s Markets-" event. The theme centered around attracting foreign capital, with a keynote speech by former Prime Minister Fumio Kishida presenting the "Asset Management Country Realization Plan," alongside talks featuring 32 prominent figures from the political, financial, and business sectors across 11 different programs. These discussions aimed to showcase the allure of Japan as an investment destination to international investors.

During the event, Yamashita and Yagi highlighted specific examples of collaboration from the "Fujisan-Alps Alliance Migration Promotion Project," focusing on innovative initiatives that leverage real estate stocks to foster local growth. They shared insights into a co-creation model where companies and financial institutions collaborate to tackle regional challenges.

Details of Collaboration for Local Revitalization

The partnership between Renoveru and Shizuoka Bank has spawned several projects aimed at invigorating local communities. Here are highlights from their cooperative efforts:

1. Utilization of Registered Tangible Cultural Heritage:
In Mishima City, a 97-year-old registered cultural property was transformed into a multi-purpose facility combining a whiskey distillery and bar under the concept of engaging the local community in the experience of whiskey production. The project encompasses an area of 180.72 square meters and serves as a unique tourist attraction while preserving cultural heritage.

2. Countering Population Decline and Low Birthrate:
The two banks partnered with Yamanashi Chuo Bank and Hachijuni Bank to repurpose four government employee dormitories in Kofu City into rental housing specifically catering to families with children. This project consists of 44 housing units plus amenities like a community lounge to foster social interactions and communal living.

3. Enhancing Local Park Appeal:
A complex facility named "STARRACE KOMORO," featuring a winery, retail shops, and a restaurant, is under development in Komoro City. The site will host regular events and activities, aiming to bounce back from regional stagnation while increasing local tourism and community engagement.
