JR East's New Tohoku Fukko Bento Celebrates 15 Years of Tasteful Tradition

Starting March 6, 2026, JR East's Cross Station Food Company will unveil the 14th edition of the Tohoku Fukko Bento, a railway lunchbox series created to honor the memory and resilience of Tohoku's recovery from the Great East Japan Earthquake. This year marks a significant milestone, celebrating a total of 1.15 million bento boxes sold in this ongoing initiative.

A Culinary Journey Through Tohoku


The latest offering, titled “Tohoku Fukko Bento – Want to Eat, Want to Go, Tohoku Now,” promises a vibrant selection representing the best of the six Tohoku prefectures. Each bento is designed to encapsulate the rich flavors and diverse landscapes of Tohoku, abundant in treasures from both land and sea. Unpacking this delightful meal transports diners directly to the scenic beauty of the region.

Each customer will receive one of six unique postcard designs, inviting them to explore and appreciate the captivating landscapes of Tohoku while enjoying their meal. However, this offer is limited and will conclude once the postcards run out.

Launched in October 2011 with the collaboration of the Tohoku branch of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency, the Tohoku Fukko Bento series was conceived with a noble mission. Its primary aim is to support the recovery of regions affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake through the power of food. By utilizing local ingredients, the initiative not only bolsters the culinary landscape but also promotes tourism, showcasing Tohoku's enchanting allure to a broader audience. Each year, the bento is updated or renewed to keep the narrative of resilience and remembrance alive.

For added convenience, customers can pre-order and pay for their bento boxes ahead of time, ensuring a smooth collection process. Reservations will be accepted as soon as they are available, and orders can be made up to three days before the designated pick-up date.
