Celebrating a Year of Success with Autonomous Mobile Robots at Chery in Dalian
ForwardX Celebrates One Year of Autonomous Mobile Robots at Chery's Dalian Plant
In March 2026, ForwardX Robotics proudly commemorates a significant milestone: a year since its Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) began operations at the Chery automobile plant in Dalian. Over the past year, the AMR system has consistently supported extensive internal logistics operations, particularly in the welding and final assembly workshops, proving its reliability in the high-volume automotive manufacturing environment.
Revolutionary Impact on Production
With plans to deploy a total of 435 autonomous mobile robots across various sections of the plant, more than 270 of these robots are already in operation. They play a crucial role in meeting the daily production needs of between 800 and 1,000 vehicles. The importance of uninterrupted material supply in the automotive industry cannot be overstated; it is vital for maintaining the stability of production lines. Therefore, the AMRs are tasked with coordinating the continuous movement of thousands of components between workshops.
In the welding shop alone, 121 AMRs facilitate the automated delivery of parts essential for body assembly operations. Meanwhile, 150 AMRs in the final assembly area ensure the transportation of components and the distribution of parts across production stations. This integrated AMR system now handles the automated supply of 32 different parts in the welding shop, fulfilling over 50% of material requirements. Furthermore, the distribution system in the final assembly workshop manages deliveries of 95 parts—accounting for nearly 80% of the materials needed for assembly.
Advanced Technology in Action
The AMRs utilized are based on ForwardX's fourth-generation platform, which combines machine vision navigation with an intelligent fleet management system. This enables the robots to navigate the complex factory layout effortlessly, dynamically coordinating transportation tasks between different workshops. According to Nicolas Chee, Founder and CEO of ForwardX Robotics, "The significant automation in automotive manufacturing demands long-term operational reliability. The past year has demonstrated how AMRs can consistently facilitate material handling amidst complex production conditions."
Efficiency Improvements and Future Outlook
The integration of AMRs has drastically reduced the need for manual material handling across the facility, enhancing internal logistics efficiency and promoting lean manufacturing principles. As the system continues to expand and optimize throughout the year, it is anticipated that the automation platform will further streamline internal transport workflows and redirect human resources toward more critical tasks.
The successful first year of implementing this system at Chery's Dalian plant vividly illustrates how large-scale deployment of mobile robotics can significantly contribute to maintaining operational stability in high-volume manufacturing environments.
