In a bid to combat the global skin health crisis affecting billions, CeraVe, the leading dermatologist-recommended skincare brand in the USA, has made significant strides this year. On World Skin Health Day, which takes place every July 8, CeraVe collaborated with the International League of Dermatological Societies (ILDS) and the International Society of Dermatology (ISD) to mobilize efforts across nine countries. These initiatives reached over 3,900 underserved patients around the globe and aimed to raise awareness about the pressing need for dermatological care.
Bridging the Dermatology Gap
The World Skin Health Day aims to address the lack of access to dermatological services that currently faces about one-third of the global population affected by skin diseases. In some regions, there is less than one dermatologist per million people, creating a significant care gap that prevents three billion individuals from receiving necessary medical attention. CeraVe and its partners are committed to closing this gap to ensure that more patients worldwide have access to dermatological expertise.
Expanding Global Awareness
CeraVe's outreach campaign involved participation from individuals and organizations in 76 countries, sharing their experiences and activities on social media and digital platforms. This effort successfully reached over 4.5 million people, coinciding with CeraVe's 20th anniversary celebrations. This year’s events featured prominent dermatologists and developers discussing accessible solutions and the collective commitment to improving skin health.
Key Highlights:
- - Activation in 9 countries across 5 continents.
- - 3,900+ underserved patients treated.
- - 4.5 million people reached online and in-person.
- - Support from over 200 government officials was garnered.
Mobilizing Care Initiatives
Eleven events focusing on government advocacy, health education, and patient care were conducted in various countries. Notable efforts included:
- - In Indonesia, over 220 patients received dermatological care, with more than 60 government officials pledging their support for skin health.
- - In Nigeria, over 1,200 patients accessed dermatological services for the first time.
- - Mobile dermatology units in Bangladesh diagnosed and treated over 1,000 patients in flood-prone areas.
- - In the Philippines, nearly 50 dermatologists and healthcare staff treated 163 patients in a remote community while training 136 additional healthcare personnel.
In the United States, CeraVe collaborated with the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC) to highlight skin health in underserved communities. Dermatologists volunteered their time at NAFC clinics to treat patients, while L'Oreal Skin Health Advisors conducted educational sessions at other clinics. This partnership aimed to create lasting impact while inspiring actionable initiatives for hundreds of patients and volunteers.
A Mutual Commitment
Dr. Ariana Gordillo, Senior Director at NAFC, noted the positive impact of the partnership, stating, "Our ongoing collaboration with CeraVe has significantly benefited our clinics, enhancing training opportunities for volunteers while expanding the scope of care we can offer to patients. Access to skincare resources is limited both globally and in our communities."
Prof. Henry W. Lim, President of ILDS, acknowledged the importance of the day, stating, "This year’s World Skin Health Day reaffirmed the profound impact of skin diseases on billions globally while emphasizing the urgent need for improved access to dermatological care."
Care For All Initiatives
These efforts are part of CeraVe's philanthropic program, Care For All, dedicated to enhancing access to dermatological services in underserved communities worldwide. Tom Allison, Senior Vice President of Medical Dermatology Marketing at L’Oreal, expressed pride in their initiatives, stating, "Skin health is a fundamental human right. Supporting initiatives like World Skin Health Day allows CeraVe to foster important discussions, advocate for equity, and pave the way for meaningful change for all."
CeraVe’s commitment to breaking down barriers in dermatological care and empowering skin health experts is evident as they continue their impactful work. For more information on CeraVe Care For All and global initiatives, visit
