Held in Sanya, located in southern China's picturesque Hainan Province, the festival spanned a week and included a variety of events that celebrated cinematic excellence.
The spotlight of the festival shone brightly during the Golden Coconut Awards ceremony, hosted on the scenic Phoenix Island. This year, the festival attracted film lovers and professionals alike, marking an impressive milestone with over 4,330 entries submitted from an astonishing 117 countries and regions. The selection process culminated in the announcement of the winners across various categories, showcasing the global talent in filmmaking.
Key Winners of the Golden Coconut Awards
The Best Picture award went to Holy Electricity, a film crafted by talented Georgian director Tato Kotetishvili. Another notable mention is 78 Days by Serbian director Emilija Gasic, which snatched the Grand Jury Prize. Director Laetitia Dosch was honored with the Best Director award for her thought-provoking film Dog on Trial. Acting accolades were highlighted by Alberth Merma who won Best Actor for Through Rocks and Clouds, while Preeti Panigrahi took home Best Actress for her role in Girls Will Be Girls. The award for Best Scriptwriter was jointly awarded to Ruth Becquart and Leonardo Van Dijl for their compelling screenplay in Julie Keeps Quiet. Additionally, My Friend An Delie, a remarkable debut feature film by Chinese director Dong Zijian, secured both Best Visual Effect and Best Chinese Contribution of the Year.
Other films that garnered accolades at the festival include An Oscillating Shadow by Chilean-Argentinian director Celeste Rojas Mugica, which won Best Documentary Film, and Vox Humana directed by Filipino filmmaker Don Josephus Raphael Eblahan, who took home the award for Best Short Film.
