Celebration of George Enescu's Legacy
As we approach the 145th anniversary of the birth of renowned Romanian composer and musician George Enescu, a special piano recital is set to take place on September 21, 2026. Hosted by Asterism, in collaboration with the Romanian Embassy in Japan, the Romanian Cultural Center in Tokyo, and the Japan-Romania Association, this event promises a remarkable evening of music in Setagaya's Karasuyama Community Center, Tokyo.
George Enescu is celebrated as one of Romania's most important cultural figures, known for his contributions as a composer, violinist, and conductor that left a significant mark on 20th-century music history. The highlight of the evening will feature the talented pianist Kenichiro Murakami, known for his profound connection with Romanian music, having studied at the Bucharest Conservatory and performed extensively with orchestras throughout Romania.
A Rich Musical Program
The recital will encompass a diverse array of musical works, including Enescu's famed
Romanian Rhapsody No. 1, a showcase of national pride and traditional Romanian melodies. Also on the program are pieces by other notable composers:
Nocturne by Dinu Lipatti,
French Suite No. 5 by Bach, and
Clair de Lune from Debussy's Suite Bergamasque. This thoughtfully curated selection underscores the vibrant tapestry of musical influences that Enescu and his contemporaries have left behind.
The event will not only highlight Enescu's legacy but will also aim to introduce a wider audience to genuine music from Romania. As part of this initiative, novelty items such as Romanian sheet music and folk crafts will be available for purchase, making it an immersive cultural experience for attendees.
Accessible for All
Recognizing the importance of spreading the joy of classical music, the event caters to a broad audience by setting ticket prices at affordable rates. General admission tickets are available for just 2,000 yen, with an exclusive discount for Confetti members bringing the price down to 1,000 yen. This approach aligns with the commitment to encourage more people to engage with high-quality musical performances and appreciate the arts.
