Fujitecom and Issues Join Forces
Fujitecom Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has announced a collaboration with Issues Inc., which operates the social issue resolution platform, to launch a signature campaign. This initiative, titled "Preventing Water Shortages and Road Collapse Accidents," commenced on July 3, 2026.
The campaign aims to tackle a pressing issue in Japan where water pipes installed during the post-war economic boom are reaching the end of their lifespan. This threatens to increase the risk of unexpected water shortages and road collapses. Notably, updating all the aging pipelines could take over 160 years, while the loss of water resources through invisible leaks is estimated at approximately 150 million tons annually, amounting to a staggering 200 billion yen in waste.
To address this critical concern, Fujitecom provides a cloud-based remote leak detection system known as "LeakNet Cellular LNL-C." This innovative system employs AI and IoT technologies to monitor underground water pipes 24/7 via the internet. By analyzing real-time data collected from the pipelines, the system can detect even minor leaks early, allowing for timely interventions without needing trained personnel on-site. This capability is crucial in preventing large-scale accidents that could disrupt residents’ lives.
The objective of the campaign is to minimize the damages and repair costs associated with these infrastructure failures by advocating for a preventive maintenance approach among local governments.
Campaign Overview
Within the Issues platform, a signature campaign focused on the theme of preventing water shortages and road collapse accidents is accessible to the public. Residents can vote in support of or against the proposal, and by registering their postal codes, their opinions are forwarded to the registered representatives in their local communities.
The intent is to make local issues visible based on the gathered voices, thereby prompting municipalities and businesses to collaborate on effective resolutions.
