National Park Foundation's $4.7 Million Commitment to Youth Education

The National Park Foundation (NPF) has proudly kicked off its Open OutDoors for Kids initiative for its 15th consecutive year, marking the occasion with an impressive $4.7 million investment aimed at enhancing educational experiences within national parks. This significant funding is set to connect over 90 national parks with students through a variety of programs designed to foster their appreciation for nature and the environment, as well as instill a sense of stewardship that can last a lifetime.

What is Open OutDoors for Kids?

Launched in collaboration with the National Park Service, the Open OutDoors for Kids program was created to address barriers to access for students, especially in areas such as transportation. • - Pacific Historic Parks: Providing an engaging tour at the Pearl Harbor National Memorial that educates students about pivotal moments in World War II history.
• - Ice Age Trail Alliance: Creating a three-part educational experience that connects students with Wisconsin’s glacial history through guided hikes and classroom discussions.
• - Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area Corporation: Facilitating STEM-aligned field trips that connect students with local history, culture, and ecology.
• - Selma to Montgomery National Historic Trail: A new grantee this year, they will develop a butterfly garden and outdoor learning space, merging environmental education with civil rights history.
