Exciting Spring Break Workshop for Kids: Straw Bridge Challenge

As the school year comes to a close, it’s time for spring break! What better way to engage young minds than with a fun, hands-on workshop? Pendemy, a company based in Fuchu City, Tokyo, is offering a free special class called Design the Strongest Bridge! Straw Bridge Challenge. This innovative program is designed for elementary school students from grades 1 to 6 and will take place on March 27th and 31st, 2026.

Background of the Event: A Chance for Practical Learning

In recent years, there has been a growing interest in education that encourages children to identify problems and find solutions, such as STEAM education and inquiry-based learning. Pendemy's vision is Making Learning More Fun. With a diverse range of educational services, Pendemy aims to provide students with a unique practical learning experience that differs from regular school classes. The upcoming spring break presents the perfect opportunity for students to engage in exciting educational activities, and this workshop is one of the most popular offerings.

Overview of the Program: Design Your Own Bridge

The Straw Bridge Challenge is a hands-on workshop where participants will use everyday materials like straws to design and build bridges. Instead of simply following instructions, children will engage in critical thinking by asking themselves, What can I do to make my bridge stronger and able to hold more weight? This process encourages hypothesis formulation and trial-and-error experimentation.

Through this program, students will learn about not only bridge structures and physics basics but will also develop engineering thinking skills in a fun and engaging way. Participants will create their own unique straw bridges, then test their designs by placing weights on them to see how the different structures withstand pressure.
